I will be helping a buddy Dylan with some suspension issues on his MINI, as well as helping Mike out in detailing his new 20th GTI and getting that ready for winter.

Just wanted to open it up for those that might want to attend, pending weather of course.  Mike will come over about noon to start detailing, but I am trying to get Dylan down earlier so we can start making progress on his suspension before Mike gets here so we will still have room for both cars in the garage.

Maybe a little BBQ action as well....can't work on cars without food!!!  Cheesy

pm me for address and contact info if interested.

Sounds like fun, count me in at this point. Would be nice to do some wrenching, and see Mike's new ride.

yeah, the day is pretty much gonna be swallowed up with detailing Mike's car, and wrenching on Dylan's MINI...but always fun to get together for some beers, grilled animal, and garage talk Smiley

It's high time I made it to a garage day and since Jon is going to have it on a weekend, I may be able to make it!

Garage is cleaned and ready to go.

I am thinking burgers and brats for lunch, with other snacks.  There is beer in the fridge down stairs, and otter pops in the freezer upstairs.  Bring more beer to share, other food you might want to share on the grill, or other snacks for everyone.

I am so excited to finally host another weekend garage day, been way too long.

Another bump for Sunday....NOON start time, but feel free to come early if you want.  Dylan might be here before then to get started on his suspension stuff.

Just cleaned the Cooper, the old boy needed a bath...bad.

Andrew, you were not the only one that came a day early, my buddy John from Boulder drove down.  He ended up helping me finish painting, then we went to the local brew pub for some wings and brats.  Wigged me out since 2 of you thought it was yesterday.

Jack, glad you are coming down, hope you bring the bike, I really want to see it....but that makes it hard to follow mapquest directions, haha.

here is what I posted on motoringunderground....to lazy to edit it again for here...but it ended up with me pushing everyone out the door since I needed to clean up and get inside to have dinner with Betsy...Cheesy

Pics and events:

Dylan showed up right on time, 10am.  Not bad for a college kid that partied all weekend, and had an hour drive south to my house.... Cheesy

We got started after a run to the grocery store to get him some breakfast...

me helping to diagnose the problems with noises in the back of his car...

MiniDaMoocher showed up, he was taking pics while we worked...here is one of his awesome cabrio...such a great car.

Dylan's problems started to surface.  First, both rear Koni's were completely blown, oil leaking everywhere, and I mean everywhere.  Then there were issues with the upper bushings in the top hats, looks like the top hat bolts were not put on properly, there was a ton of movement, the metal bushing sleeve was totally destroyed, on both sides, and both bushings were deformed and torn.  One of the actual top hats were mushroomed out and had a ton of play in them....this brought him much sadness as there was nothing we could do to fix this at this time. Sad

So, we just put everything back together as best we could, knowing that since there were damaged top hats on both sides and the shocks being blown that the noises would still be there.

So, we then turned to the exhaust, we had to reverse his exhaust hangers as they were on backwards, so we fixed that and also adjusted one control arm as he was running massive camber in the driver rear side...few turns and it was matched up as best we could with an angle level to where the other side was set.  Still, a ton of camber in the rear, but hopefully when he gets new tires, he can get an alignment done to pull some more of the camber out to reduce the uneven wear he is experiencing.  Also, having the rear suspension dialed in will help with that I think...

Then we turned to focusing on cleaning cars, as there was not much we could do to fix Dylan's car, and the sway bar I had was the same size as what he already had on his car, 16mm.  I thought mine was bigger, oh well Sad

This is Mike washing his 20th AE GTI that he just picked up...

Dylan cleaning up and getting ready to wash his car.

My good buddy Jay came over with his Scout that he is restoring.  That thing is just awesome!!!  Between that, his '92 urS4 Audi, his Passat and his BMW motorcycle, that boy is set up!!!

Just some other random shots of the day, including one of my car Smiley

My good buddy Winston's B5 Passat.  18"ers with some serious lip action.  Love it!!

Jack's Duc Monster 700...I am so jealous.

Buffing and polishing action...and Dylan on the move Smiley

I put white hubcaps on Trouble Smiley.  Kinda like them, made Dylan drive home like that Cheesy

So, that was our day, it is now dark outside, I need to look up the part numbers of the stuff Dylan needs to fix his top hats, and to get his OEM struts back in in case Koni won't warranty his rear shocks...and hopefully he can make it back down again soon once he gathers what he needs so we can fix things....Not as productive as I had hoped it would be, but at least Trouble got a bath....and we had some really good brats and burgers.  No pictures of that cuz I was eating Cheesy

Now I need to hit the shower, and finish eating dinner and hang on the couch for a while with my wife, who was more than generous with letting me play in the garage today, and letting everyone invade our house.

Thanks for having me over today, Jon.  Ethan had a good time too, especially with MaryBeth!

It was good to meet you Mike, John, Dylan and Jack.  I need to get out more.  Kids and work have made me somewhat of a hermit!

Dylan, good luck on the parts and getting everything ship-shape.

It was a fun time today, thanks so much for letting us use your garage and tools Jon, the 20th looks a million times better because of it! It was good meeting new people and seeing old friends.

No problem Mike.  Wish we got an earlier start on your car, so that you would have been a little more done before I had to kick you out.
