Garage Day?
« on: June 01, 2004, 07:31:14 PM »
Does anyone else have need for a garage day in the near future?  I finally got all the parts I need to replace my brakes and would like to get them changed out in the next few weeks.  Since I'm in a condo I don't really have space to host a garage day, but maybe one of you guys with a new house are ready to host your first garage day?

I'll suggest June 12th or 13th as possible days, but feel free to chime in with other suggestions and also mention what work you need to do on your car.

I wouldn't mind hosting June 12th or 13th, but space may be an issue. I only have room for about 3-4 cars, since we are basically in an alley. There is plenty of parking in front of my place though...

I don't really have anything to do to my car, but we could grill up some grub or whatever...

I would like to install new brakes.

I just received the cross-drilled and slotted rotors from a CB5 GB, and I just ordered online a set of Axxis (PBR) MetalMaster pads.

Bump.  Anyone else have work they need to do on their car soon?  Will you have all your parts by this weekend Alan?  I'm not in a huge hurry so we can push this back a week or two if that works better for people.

I will have my Brakes by this weekend, should be here Wednesday.  I would like to replace my Pads and maybe even doa flush since I have no idea when one was last done on my car.

I just need to double check about a wedding shower that might be this weekend.

Also, i need to get in touch with Jon since he has the rear brake caliper tool and the bleeder.

I just sent an email to Jon about the bleeder.  I'll try to get it from him this week.  Amanda has her rear brake tool, but loaned it to a friend of hers.  How hard is it to compress the rear calipers without it?  Is that tool something we can borrow from Checker or someplace?

We might be able to get it from checker, some people have used other methods, but I can't recall what they did.

Thanks for getting the bleeder.

Well I have some new tie rod ends on the way to me. Should be here sometime this week. I would love to get some help from someone that has either done these or seen it done. They shouldn't be too tough I would guess.

As for rear brake tools, I bought a set of brake compression tools a little while back and they are the total bomb for doing anything with brakes. Front or rear. I'd be happy to bring them. I could probably do my rear brakes too. They seem to be making some noise and that's usually not good.

June 12th is a bad day for me. I'll be way busy that day. What about the 13th?

The 13th might actually be better for me too.  I didn't help Dave with his tie rod ends, but shoot him a PM and see if he's free?

Chas, let me see, but the 13th sounds like it may work.  Church comes first, but we can go to the early service and that lets out about 9:30, drop the family off then I am free.  I will be glad to lend a hand.
If it ain't broke, take it apart and fix it!

I'm going to do a tie rod end writeup and post it on CB5 and here as well.  I am shooting to get that done tonight for those doing that this weekend (Chas).

Looks like I am good to go for Saturday or Sunday.  I can bring my 10x10, I guess we could even do stuff at my house.  I need to get the OK from the roommies first.

I'm going to add a poll to this thread for numbers.

doh! Import Replacement Parts told me the front MetalMaster pads are on back order, I went ahead and got the rears and ordered a pair of the EBC Greenstuff front pads from Tire Rack just now.  All of the pads should arrive by Friday, so I'm good to go this weekend.

Sounds like Sunday is still a good day for most people.  Now we just need a location.  Mark, you still willing to host?  Or should we just do this at Jay's?

Sounds like we've got 3 brake jobs and 1 possible tie rod job to do so far.

I also have a 33gal Air compressor, some Air Tools, a whimpy floor jack, 2 jack stands and a creeper.

Sunday should work for me, we should be able to do it at my house if Mark doesn't want us soiling his property or getting him on the bad side of his neighbors just yet ;).

I might just have to buy a bunch of beer.

I'm still willing to host...it's up to you guys. I'd be more than happy to have all of you over but be forewarned, space is a constraint...Can we start a list of definite work to be done? I have an air compressor, floor jack, jack stands and a few basic tools.

Sweet, I think that will work if we run a schedule.  We can probably do some work in the street and I'll bring my 10x10 :)

I don't really have any clue how long it will take to do brake pads, I have to do a little cutting and splicing with my front pads due to the different plug type. I know the rears go quick, especially if Chas has brake tooks.

I have twice as many pads up front so i am going to read/print out Jon's instructions as well as ay others I can find about my fronts.  I also need to get some brake fluid.

Anyone know how those guys disposed of brake fluid at the last Garage Day?

We emptied all of the brake fluid into an empty Clorox container.
Someone took it down to Checker or other garage/autoshop for recycling.

Yeah, we left it with Jon. Not sure what he did with it.

I'll take responsibility for disposing of the old brake fluid.  I'll see if Checker will take it or maybe Champagne motors will dispose of it for us.

If Chas can't make it on Sunday, can one of you try to get his rear brake tool?  I'll hopefully get Jay's bleeder from Jon tomorrow.

I'll let Jay & Mark flip a coin to decide who plays host for us.  I'll bring my jack stands and floor jack too.

Ok, picked up the bleeder from Jon today.

I haven't had time to search clubb5 for good brake replacement write-ups.  Have you guys come across any good ones?  I've got my Haynes manual too, but need to find time to look thru it before Sunday.

I am in, I am not doing anything to my car, just there to help.

I can also stop by Chas's house and pick up the tool if he cannot make it.  I hope he can!
