One more thing:

For all you Northwest-side-of-town folks - My friend Jim and I are going to meet up to drive to the track together.  Join us if you want to all drive over together.

we are meeting at the Starbucks at 80th and Wadsworth between 7:15 and 7:30 then will depart for 2nd creek.

I need that caffine fix before I drive.

I'll probably pick up one of those "traveler" buckets of coffee to take care of you other caffine adicts at the track.

I'll see you there Andrew

Cool.  Looks like Jim decided that was out of the way, so we'll meet him at the track.  I'll keep my eye out for you.

I still need my coffee.

If no one else speaks up, I'll get the coffee then meet you at your place.

cool...I'll be loaded up on Caffeine, since I got zero sleep last night trying to fix the suspension on the MINI.  Put it back to stock last night, then figured I had some more room on the coil overs, so adjusted those, then re-installed them, now they ar on, I have soem room, getting my oil changed this morning, then my new Paradas mounted after that...hopefully they will fit...if not, I am just gonna cry....

either way for tomorrow morning, does not matter to me.

Tempting.. .however I think that's way more out of the way for me.. probably just easiest if I go down I-25 with a stop at my local Sbux before track day.

Is everyone planning to be at the track around 8am??

At least a few of us are.  We will have a drivers meeting around 8:15 or 8:30, so hopefully people will be there by then.  I especially hope any track virgins will be there by then.

Ok, that's what I was wondering about. I will try to be there for the driver's meeting since I haven't driven in a while. I can use the refresher.

I am a virgin and I hope to be there for my de-flowering by 8:30 at the latest.

Although I did get to spend some time on a Psudo-track at the BWM Ultimate drive day AND in a parking lot with Alan - hehe.

Do you know if there are any cones that we can use? I think it helps, even experienced people, to put cones out to mark apexes and turn-in/track-out points. Or, with all the rain, we might want to mark some of the areas that you don't want to drop a wheel off.

Good idea, Mark.  Bob will be setting out the cones for us.  I hadn't thought about the drop off issue.  Don't let me forget about that tomorrow.

Anybody hitting up Duggan's Petroleum? They open at 7am, close at 5pm, and have 100 and 105 unleaded. My bro and I plan on going there before heading out. I might hit it tonight after work.

I think Rusty and I will stop there on the way to the track.  We'll probably be there around 7:00 a.m.

Hmmph, I just bought 3 gals of Tolulene for nothing.

Rusty must be REALLY excited about the high octane thing if he posted twice!

I believe too much octane is a bad thing.

Maybe a little much...

Tolulene has an octane rating by itself of 114. That added to 105 gas seems like over kill, especially for Rusty's car which doesn't have any optimazation of the timing maps like the chipped cars do. And even in a chipped car it won't be needed. I do beleive that an increased octane rating for a car with a 91 octane chip still makes more power because there is less detonation going on and the ECU can advance the timing more that without the increased octane. Though some people doen't believe that is true, I have felt the difference on track days in the past.

Add a gallon of Tolulene to a 3/4 full tank of 91 octane gas and you'll have a better time at the track. The 105 race gas is also a great way to. Maybe a bit more expensive in the end.

Tolulene can be had at Kwal-Howel paint stores for about $9 a gallon. Nasty stuff though. Don't breath it or let it touch your skin.

....or your car's paint.  It's used sometimes as a paint thinner.
I've found 95 or 96 octane is about all my car can benefit from.  After that it's pointless.

I bought a funnel and 1 gal. gas can to put the toluene in which worked great. Keep a rag over the tip of the spout til you get it in the filler and keep rag there underneath to make sure no drips escape.

Stuff is definately nasty. I did this mid-day with only a cuppa coffee in me and when the fumes hit me I got all goo-goo headed. So i guess the warning is... Don't Use on an Empty Stomach

Some of us need an overall octane of 100+ for optimal performance!

I am off to go huff  8O - I mean - buy some Toluene.  I too can attest to the performance it gives due to lower detonation.

This is my last post for the day, so I will see ya'll in the AM at the track.

« Reply #178 on: August 19, 2004, 10:09:03 PM »
Hey, guys,

For those that have never been to Second Creek before, and even for those that have, I wrote up a Course Guide today.  I've been driving and racing at SCR for 4 years and have LOTS of laps there.  Just click on the link below and download it (Word doc).

Second Creek Course Guide

I will have some copies at the track tomorrow for people, but if you want to print it off, that might help.  I'll go over some of what's in there for everyone and then if people want the detailed version, I can do that to.

I will be available all day for questions and instruction, in your car or mine (SVT Focus), so don't hesitate to ask.

See you tomorrow!
