National GTG Eat and Show- Sunday August 22
« on: June 30, 2004, 12:39:28 PM »
Blake Street Tavern downtown is hosting our Sunday post drive finale dinner and car show-off around 5ish.

They are reserving parking for us out front, providing drink specials and awesome food. We will be hanging our banner down there to plug the event for show-off purposes.

Please post here to confirm that you will be going following Sunday's drive and how many are in your party: ie. wife, kids etc. I can then give him an accurate head count.

One car, one person for me.

Good point about dirty cars, do we have time for a group hose down that evening? Maybe just go take over a local coin-op car wash ;)

Me too please!

1 car and 4 people! :)

As for the washing thing, we should be able to find a location that we can run our cars through a coin opperated car wash. They don't need to look totally prestine. But if they are waxed a day or two before this drive then show thing, they'll clean up fine after a quick hose down.

Ok, so my thing is I have to cover 500 miles hung over, and my car will have about 2500 miles worth of driving on it when I roll into town so it will be a mess.

So if it is an issue, don't count me as a spot since I wont know if I am going until I get into town and on top of that showing off a bug encrusted Audi isn't always the sweetest thing.

I will let you know for sure soon.  I have to check the work schedule.

As for Jay's car - go with the Blue 3M painters tape on the drive.  It will save your car and the bugs will come off with the tape.  Win-Win if ask me.  Plus it looks cool...

Yeah, maybe people will think I am some sort of high tech test car.  Do you think the tape will cause any damage in the 120 degree heat of the Mojave?

I will drop him a line and see if he had any issues, and get back to you.

Thanks guys, I think i am just going to wax the begeezus  out of the front end. I always seem to run into rain on this trip.

After some other advice the wax route should work for the bugs.

Now back on topic ;)

hehe. Randy said there was blue tape flying around CO, so I figured it'd probably be mine, thought I'd come over and say hi :)

The blue painters tape should go on at the last possible moment before you drive, then removed as soon as you get to your destination. While the tape won't damage your paint or clearcoat, it's still best to have it on the car for the least amount of time possible. Even though it's painters tape, it'll still leave some tape residue when you remove it.

I had my tape on for 3+ days (rain, heat, bugs) and it didn't have any adverse effects on my paint. You shouldn't expect any problems with the heat, it's them damn bugs you gotta worry about  :(

Anyhow, hello Rocky Mountain Crew :)

What I said on the other thread for Sunday:

Darn, I'll be here Fri and Sat, but I'll have to miss this day.  I need to get back home because we are leaving on a long road trip early Monday morning.  Goin' back to Tennessee to scatter Dad's ashes as a family, and hopefully on up to Boston to deliver my stepson's new old '78 Scirocco.

This sounds like a really fun day - breakfast, long drive, eat, & show.  I'll really miss it.  Have fun, everyone!  I'll be there in spirit...

Aw, shucks, thanks!  I was looking forward to it - I have the Kamei grill now, a FMIC, and the black Euro trim.  Put a black MagnetBra on it and it looks positively wicked!  (Flashback to the Lexus GS400 commercial) - "Something Wicked This Way Comes..." :)

At least you guys will get to see it (or, I get to show it off :-) ) Friday and Saturday.
