the Audi, if we are gonna do mountains, I want to FLY!!!!  and watch the rest of you TRY to keep up, bwahahahahaha.  The mini is super fun around the twisties, but not so fast on the get go or up the hills in the mountains.  In order to keep up with the turbos around here, I would have to stick with the Audi.

I was kinda thinking Aspen or something for the drive, do a little hike while up there, then head home...can anyone say independence pass?

Any other suggestions?  I will also check out the scenic byway web page and see if there any other great options, the byways always seem to have good twisties, which translates into fun.  There are even some more local routes that I hear are quite nice.

and Jay, that beasty boys show is gonna rock!!!

OOOOH!  I might just have to take a day off to go on a drive!  that would be sweet.

Colo Beemers bike club does an annual ride that would be a fun day drive.  the special thing is it covers 100,000 vertical feet of elevation change in a day!

Denver to Buena vista, to leadville, to vail, to toponas, to kremmling, to walden, to granby, to estes park then back to denver!  It is an awesome day.

PS - I'd also be happy to take a shot at keeping up with you Jon.

I'm in.  That's the day after my birthday.   I could use a day off as a birthday present to me.

Maybe I'll bring the bike if the weather looks good.  I could use a good long ride!

Yeah...it's early and I haven't had all my coffee yet. You of all people know what happens when that occurs.

Is anyone on Audiworld, with the exception of you and Jon planning on going ...that's what I meant to say. :P

Ahhh!  beats me.  I don't think the idea has been proposed there.

Before opening this up to a big(ger) group, we should probably nail down the deatils like meeting time/place, and the route.

I don't know...you said you had something in mind for cool pictures and fast twisties and things...I really don't care as long as it's twistied and not too heavily traveled.

the motorcycle route at the top of this thread is a combo of wide open straights, and nice twists too.  I am up for that.

Alright then.  sounds like the route is decided.  It is a ~550 mile trip.  It will take pretty much all day!

Since we start out going up 285 maybe meeting on the SW side of town works.  How about at the Fort resturant parking lot at 8:00am?

WOW! 550! *whistle* As long as I'm back sometime around 4ish, 8am works for me.

I could cut out early though like at 34/40. I just don't like to be gone from home if my wife's there. I don't hardly get to see her working weekends.  :-(  :(

last time I did this, I got to estes at 4:30 - if you want to make denver at 4:00, we'll either have to leave way earlier, or will have to cut down part of the drive.

this was the route we were thinking:

I got all day, if we are pushed for time we can always cut it short.  I will do the entire drive if you want Andrew, and JR, if you want to cut out early...no worries...  Looks like there are some great places for pictures on that route, which pretty much covers all of Colorado, hehehe
