Water Injection

Has anyone here ever tryed water injection on a forced induction car that uses a MAF?
If your not fimilar with what im talking about, its basicly an injector that sprays water into the intake cooling the flame front, hense cooling the engine as a whole.

I guess that you could inject the water after the MAF... thats a good thought.

I guess that what im looking for is some objective opinions on this issue... pros cons ect...

TIA

Greg

Water injection?

I dont think thats the wisest thing to do as water doesnt compress.  Im not sure if you are thinking of injecting it into the engine, thus going into the combustion chamber or not.  Not something I would want to do.  You could however setup a water sprayer unit over your intercooler core.  Our small intercoolers on the 1.8T's are known to heatsoak very rapidly in a short amount of time.  You could lessen the time heatsoak sets in by spraying the water over the core.  This will lower the intake temps, and will give you an added HP bonus (minumal, N2O would be better) then not using anything.  IIRC, Chas designed one of the 1st sprayer units, but that was on his FMIC.  I'd hit him up with a message to see what he has to contribute.

Water injection (done properly) has been around for years.

I used to run it on my Supercharged VR6...it worked.  But really wasn't worth the hassle or the minimal gains it provided.  If I had it to do all over again I would have spent my money elsewhere.

I think the intercooler mister is probably money better spent.
itrous is like a really hot chick with STD's, you really want to hit it , but you're worried about the aftermath.

Greg, if you are looking at doing a intercooler mister, I would suggest joinging clubb5.com and getting in touch with a member by the name of Spanky McGee.  He has set up a few interesting things for his intercooler mister system.  He's done a few VagCom logs as well to show his gains.  For the most part, he enjoys the mister and he's commented that its helped tremendously during the spring/summer months.

Click here to read some of his detailed reviews and dyno results.

HTH,
Steve

BTW, I know he has a B5.5 Passat, and you a Golf, but he may still be able to help you out with some stuff.
