Gauge Noob Needs Info..
« on: August 25, 2004, 02:52:41 PM »
I've decided that I'd like to go with a VDO vaccum/boost gauge but my problems is I don't know where to find everything I need.

So far this option:

AND

is my favorite but I'd like to use double sided tape indtead.  No one from the outside would be able to see it, only I would.

I don't want to drill anything and want to stay relatively cheap.  Is there any way you could help me find what to order and from where?  I looked at eGauges.com and it was a little confusing on exactly what tubing kit i needed.

I'm guessing ECStuning for the NoBuzz fitting, eGuages.com for the VDO vaccum/boost gauge and the same for the tubing (just need to know what to order exactly), but, most importantly, where can I find the pod to install next to the tach?  Is there a place where I can get all this in one stop?  Thanks in advance.  Sorry for the long winded post.

That pod is a gauge "cup". The bracket on it is removeable so it can literally be just a cup. That mounting position is also my favorite. Michael London in Colorado Springs was the only one I saw in person. Not sure what kind of cup that is, but you can find them from autometer:

Ya, I second Andrew, the Autometer website would probly have the pod for you. I have never seen the VDO Guage in bars before, thats very cool!

If you need help with the install shoot me a PM I just compleated this install myself.

Okay, I found something.  I want to get the least deep of the cups on http://egauges.com/vdo_acce.asp?Subgroup=Adjustable_Mounting&Cart= . Is the least deep one 240-101, then? Will the least deep of those cups fit the Vaccum/Boost Gauge? From eGauges.com, what tubing kit do I need?

Thanks for the he

Awesome!  A few more questions. Sorry.

Is the smaller one (in the backround) for the 2 1/16" Gauge?  Does it look like it'll fit by my tach?

Where in the gauge do you install this?

Will this fit if I was to get a pod small enought to fit by my tach?

Sorry for all the questions, I just don't know the proportion on the gauges , let alone much at all.     :)

Stock photo from Autometer...

It's all yours if you want it.

Thanks!

If TJ doesn't want it, I'll buy it from you assuming it fits my gauge.

I just ordered the following:

http://www.pure-motorsport.com/products/description.php/II=917/CA=332/PA=6

It might be more expensive than you want to spend but I think the look is pretty nice.

Good luck with your mods!

Hey guys, thanks for all the help.  Seriously, I appreciate it!  Madigan, thanks for the offer.  It's such a good deal.  Will it fit a VDO Vacuum/Boost Gauge?  If so, I'm in.  You want paypal?  Just let me know.

TJ, sorry I wasn't able to chime in on this earlier.
I ordered all my stuff from Evan at 42DD. He was way cool. I also got my anti-buzz T fitting from them as well.

The bulbs just replace the black dual prong light in the photo above the vacuum line.

So hopefully, you'll look like this...well, with different gauge placement:

Let me know if there's anything else you need. I have the reciept for my purchases at home and I can check tonight after work what tubing kit I ordered...if any. I know I used my own vaccum lines.

It was quite a job and Jon helped me with alot of it. If you read my oil temp write up...I mention that there are a few places in the fire wall to run your vac. line.

I'll also try to find the dimmer switch wire you tap to put your lights on the dimmer...I'll have to pull it when I get home (I think)Jon knows someone who did the write-up on that on CB5...if you do a search you'll find it.

When you pull your underside dash panel (under the steering wheel), you'll see hundres of wires all you have to do is wire the ground to an existing one under there.

I've got two guages, but you'll probably end up looking something like this:

Yours will be a bit different due to the mounting 'cause you may have to pull a few more panels or the dash or something. I know that to run wires you need to pull fuse panel and under-steering wheel dash panel and the ECU.

That's all I can really help you with 'cause I did this back in like May or something and lost my memory of the finer details....

Hey TJ, the pod I have should work with your gauge. If it doesn't I'll refund your money. :)  Paypal works for me. My Paypal address is mdigan@hotmail.com

Let me know if you still want it.

Thanks!

Guys, how about you two sillies measure the diamater of each?

My pod and guage were listed the same, but I actually had to file down the pod just a smidge.

The only thing I'd be concerned about is the depth of the pod. As far as diameter, The VDO's are 2-1/16" and that's what the pod is.

TJ, measure the length of your gauge and let me know. It should fit fine though.

Thanks.

Hhahah... good stuff.  Madigan, dude, $15 is a way good deal but I got rid of the gauge.  Money is a lot tighter than I though.  Sorry.  I really appreciate it though.  Who's ever up next on the pod..  lucky.  Thanks again for all the help y'all.

My new suspension is so fun, I forgot about the $560 I just dropped..   :)
