Colorado's got the hook-up
« on: August 26, 2004, 07:49:28 PM »
Okay, so I just wanted to let everyone know that I think Colorado has the hook up as far as performance tuning goes (at least compared to other non-Cali places)

We have an APR dealer; Autosportwerks, an MTM dealer; Champagne Motors, GIAC dealers; Avalon Motorsports and AtLast Imports and a REVO and Neuspeed dealer; again Avalon Motorsports.

And that doesn't include other smaller places for parts and stuff like RS Motorsports, Racing Trenz (primarily import tuning, but they were friendly with me) and Paragon Tuning (I heard don't let them touch your car, but you're fine buying stuff from them).

So with all this, we may not have to go outside of our own city to get stuff. We can just look at them and say, "Hey, we want to support our local dealers, but these places have better prices. What can you do?"

Just a few props to the locals.

It's very refreshing to see how the perf scene has grown in CO in the last couple of years....  Boulda is now over-run with modded S4's & A4 1.8ts, Dub of all flavors, and countless WRX's....

I wish the Dinan stuff wasn't so fargin spendy...

You just gotta keep on livin', man. L-I-V-I-N...

I wish Dinan got you more for the $.  I can't justiify an $800 chip for the 330 that nets me 6hp.

Damn BMW's.  You all are going to have to help me talk my wife into a VAG car.

Speaking of local shops, I have been talking to Ben, at racing Trenz.  JR you mentioned some other locals, like Neuspeed??  Are there places in town that have the parts locally??  Could save some bucks on shipping.  :>)

Check the above shop listings...those are your main distributors/tuners. Trenz are nice people, but their focus is on import (as in Japanese) and not Euro. You'd probably be better going to to one of the other shops.

As far as savaing money, it all depends. I was talking with Zev at Avalon yesterday about some things and he can only get a few things cheaper for me than other places. It all depends on what you want. I'm all about supporting the locals, but then I do need to watch out for my own budget.

I am not sure either.  since the 2nd kid is on the way, the 330i is going to be too small - as would an A4.  She refuses to drive a wagon - but is open to an SUV.  Weird, I know.  I am thinking Cayanne.  She is thinking X3 or X5.  None of those are a VAG car.  Maybe a new style A6 sedan.  Maybe a used S6 or S8?  too bad the Audi Pikes Peak/A7 is a while off yet.

Yeah. Tisha NEVER wants to drive a wagon...but I keep sending Avant's for sale her way so she can say "no way" in hopes that she'll like one.
She would LOVE to have an X3 though or even and Xterra.

I don't understand. But she'd also be happy with a Jetta as long as it's modified. That would be way better ont the budget, but I really want her to have AWD. So we'll see.

The X3 is small, really small.  I was not too impressed with it either, for a BMW is lacked some of the refinement the 3 adn 5 series have.

I would go with the Cayanne, if you can foot the bill.

As a parent, it will say the Passat sedan has plenty of room for kids and their stuff.  Maybe a B6 Passat is in your future...

Stay away from the Honda tuner shops in town, like the plague! These guys have no idea about VAG cars. They charge upwards of 50% more than directly from the manufacturers/authorized dealers. These people are out to get your money and do not have your best interests in mind. You will not save any money buying locally either. They jack the prices so high you wind up paying more than it would cost to buy directly from the manufacturer/authorized dealers. You will save money not buying from these guys!

Please support the tuner shops who cater to our needs!

I never got shafted, but I've heard of others getting the shaft... I'm just suggesting that you stay away from those Honda tuning places. Like I said before, they aren't looking out for your best interest. They prey upon stupid young kids who waht their cars to look like the Fast and Furious....

I have definitely seen a big change in the local tuning scene in the last 2 years even.  I hate to say it, but I think it is a direct result of the popularity of cars that The Fast and the Furious brought into the mainstream.

A lot of people didn't like that movie, but I really did.  It was a good movie with some good characters and a real feel for how the scene really is.

Plus who wouldn't like a monster Supra or that bad mamajama Dodge?

Can we say, "Skyline?"
I actually thought the movie had a terrible script but enjoyed it. I enjoy the second even more though and Torque the best.

Hey all! I'll chime in here on this one. For the most part, yes I would say stay away from most of the Japaness/import tuning shops. Usually they haven't got a clue about VAG cars, though they'll tell you they have tuned a 1.8T Golf or two.

But there is one exception here. And that's Paragon Tuning. Most of their clientele is the type the drives an Acura or a Honda, but one of the owners there messes around with German stuff quite a bit. He currently owns a new supercharged M5! It's one nasty car. Back in the day he owned a highley tuned Audi A4 1.8T. So he completely understands German stuff. He may not know every detail about our cars, but he will make the effort. The other owner there is way into the very fast Honda drag scene. I would not want to mess with any of his cars at all. So they are legit folks, not just the type that sell Altezza taillamps and say a car is tuned. I have done some dyno work with them and I and Rusty bought our FMIC's from them as well. Over all, respectable people. Way back when I first started looking for local tune shops they actually steered me away from one of their stand alone mufflers saying I would get better performance from a fully tuned system. They sent my money out the door of their shop that day. I appriciate that.
