Contest Time - Over already
« on: August 27, 2004, 12:53:18 PM »
Here is the deal - I felt like starting a new thread.

Most of you use screen-names that are relatively simple to understand.  Mine, however, seems to confuse most people.

So, here is the contest:

Be the first to figure out the origin of my screen-name (gragravar).

What do you win? At the next GTG I'll buy you a beer if you figure it out (and if you're old enough -  :P  If you're not I'll buy you the beer later)

The only hint you get is that you will REALLY prove how big a geek you are if you figure it out.

Good luck.

Only thing I can come up with is a Hitchhikers reference.

Thinking, thinking.....

Are you the only one with this handle on the web?  If not someone on a U2 Forum is copying you.

Damn, you guys are too fast - and Geeky too!

I actually started using Gargravarr as a screen name for a Brabarian Character in online playing of Diablo.  I did grab that name out of the Hitchhikers guide as I needed a name that no-one else had taken yet.

Anyway, when I signed up on Audi world, I fat fingered the spelling - and ended up with Gragravar.  I just kept that as I moved over here.

Andrew and Jay, looks like you guys get the beer next time.

Wooo! Beer. And maybe I can get ya to buy those Phaeton pedals next time too. :)

I haven't read the HGTG series in a while, kinda makes me want to pick it up again.

I went so far as to buy a nice leather bound edition that has all 4 books in one.  Looks really nice sitting on the bookshelf surrounded by all my Law books.

I am hoping to sneak the pedals into the budget.  With this new kid on the way I really do need to buy a new house though.

Bahh, details! Isn't randy on a crusade to get you some money. :)

[ultra geek/dork info nobody asked for but seemed on topic]
*deep breath* My handle dates back to Quake(the first one) online gaming. Started as Freak, which translated to Fr34k when people were doing that whole 733t thing, but that was too common. That name lived through Team Fortress, Quake2 and Unreal but the commonality of the name lead me to change it again to Tw34k around when Half Life came out. Then 733t names were getting passť and while I wanted my friends (and opponents for that matter) to know who I was since my clan was the top west-coast HL clan for some time with several members including myself who consistently ranked top 5 in the world, I shortened it to 34k; which cleverly -or not, translates to, Eak. *exhale*

Damn, now THAT's geeky.

I wish I had more time for gaming.  Never seem to get to it anymore.  Diablo II was the last one I really spent any time with.
