I am surprised to see that Zev has not posted here yet, but he is doing the grand opening of hisnew store on the 2nd of October. I guess there will be a BBQ and great specials!  We are going to try and make this a 719 driving event and bring the whole crew, so I hope to see some of you guys there as well!

I've talked to Zev a couple times in the last few days and he's extremely busy with customers and moving into the new shop etc...
I'm sure he just overlooked posting here.

Just hung up with him...  He is now able to flash GIAC software into the ECU of most DBW cars, so he has been busy doing that the last couple days.

He did want tme to confirm the 2nd as the opening date and envite everyone down.  And he is sorry for not posting here.

He also said that there will be free wheels, ECU upgrades, and certificates for free K04 turbo upgrades for the first 500 cars to show ups so get there early. 8O  8O

Alright I made that last part up    But everyone should stop by.

That's awesome, would be cool if they could get that program together for the A6 2.7T, needs to get out of beta!

So you are part of the problem!  Not part of the solutions, eh...

Please let us know how it goes.  I have the REVO software from him and it has been flawless.  I hope the GIAC programs are the same.

Yep...I ran the Revo software installed by Avalon in my last car, 20AE GTI 1.8T...nothing but good results.

Anyway, once you get the GIAC uploaded are you going to go on the next drive?

avalon left me very unimpressed.  it took ben at racing trenz 10 seconds to tell me it cost $65 (1 hour labor) to put in my turbo timer.  my friend at mac autosports said the same.  when i went in to avalon, tt in hand, it took them 20 minutes to tell me "we're gonna have to hard wire this in"  duh it's got a bunch of wires just sticking out the back of it. i make look like a dumb little girl but it's pretty obvious it's not gonna just plug in.  "its gonna be a big pain to do  blah blah blah"  so me being very frustrated just took it back and left.  so my freind at mac who's done one on an a4 before is gonna put it in this weekend for me.  i figured a tuner shop that specializes in german cars would not have left me so disappointed.  needless to say i probably wont be attending the grand opening.

Sarah, that sucks!  I wonder who it was that you talked to over there?  I have noticed that recently there are some new people that are not too good at promoting themself as knowledgeable.

I hope that where ever you go and have it installed, you are treated well and are happy with the results.

Only suggestion that I have, is to email Zev know about your experience...

Not sure who you talked to, but I have yet to encounter a TT that doesn't need a hard wire connection...  Good luck with the install this weekend.

Well this definitely sounds like a good time, so we should make solid plans to meet.  Does anyone know what time it starts?  Early I assume...I would definitely be down for hanging out for a couple hours.

Yeah. Let's all meet up. Maybe I'll even buy something 8O

Just for the record. I've heard lots of mixed reviews about Avalon, but whatever, to me, it's who can do it the best that sounds the most competent.

Zev did lose a wheel on a drive.... :?

I heard he lost a wheel as a result of a Tie-Rod breaking.  It may have be due to failure to tighten the lug bolts on the wheel.  Ask him for details, he will be happy to share them.  It is funny, from a certin point of view.

I do think a tuner is only as good as those who work for them.  This applies to all tuners / mechanics.

Well, I didn't want to bring this up, but in the interest of knowing the truth, I don't know if the wheel fell off or the tie rod broke.  I do know the wheel rolled across the road without anything attached to it, including lugs.  If the TR broke, would the wheel completely separate from the car?  It seems to me the wheel would still be attached by the lugs to the hub or something.
Hell, I don't know.  I'm not a mechanic.  But, I was driving the car immediately in front of him when it happened and was the first car to the scene after it came off.  I kind of doubt a TR breaking would cause all five lugs to come unscrewed.  Also, the lugs did not break.
Again, I don't want to bash anyone here, but sometimes I think rumors on line get out of hand.

I agree Pat...if a tie rod broke, that would only affect steering on the side that is affected.  the entire bearing housing would still be attached via the control arms, not sure what a tie rod has to do with lug nuts, or causing a wheel to fall off...especially when there are no broken lugs or other damage to the suspension.
