Fall detail day on Saturday, October 9th.
« on: September 15, 2004, 08:57:03 PM »
Well, it's that time of year again.  Time to treat our motorcoaches like a Barney treats his Duff....with tender, loving adoration.  I know mine needs a little coddling after that killer track day. :)
J-Dawg has volunteered to host this fall's detail day.  Some things you may want to bring are:

car wash soap
microfiber towels (a lot)
clay bar
detailing spray
polish
wax
buffer (preferably a random-orbital)
vinyl protectant

If you need supplies, I recommend talking with Nick or Heather at
http://www.detailersparadise.com  They live near DU and are the best resource for serious detailers, IMO.  They can tell you anything you want to know about making your car pretty.  Also, if you've been considering getting a Porter-Cable buffer, they have them for pretty cheap.

I'm not sure what Jason has in mind for food, but I'm guessing it'll be some kind of pot luck involving the grill.  I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

Well, if it's up to me we'd start around 8:00.  But, it's not at my place, so I'll leave J-Dawg to answer that one.  I would think we'll still be working on the cars well into the afternoon.

hell yeah, my car is desperate for a good hand job -- wash, polish and wax that is.

Saturday morning works perfectly for me.
Don't forget about interior detailing as well, I'll bring a bunch of Lexol products and some carpet/fabric shampoo.

I'll call Heather and Nick from Detailer's Paradise to see if they are available to come down and do some demos and offer tips and products.  They are an awesome couple and extremely knowlegable.

I already contacted Nick.  He'd like to come, but chances are he'll be out of town.  I sent him a link to this post.

Count me in.  My birthday is in October, so I will milk that for a getaway from home if I need to.  I am hoping to get a porter cable (or money for one) for my b-day so I may have one additional one as well.

Hello Everyone!

Sorry I have been so busy; I have not been online in a while.  Yes, I am thinking that 8:00 would be perfect timing for the detail day.  If you would like to bring food, you are welcome to, but I will have donuts and drinks in the morning, and probably burgers and brats in the afternoon.  If anyone wants to bring beer, or we could do BYOB, that is up to you.  I will have some on hand as well.

In general, if we can locate some outdoor pop-up tents along with plenty of chairs that would be ideal.  I do have a good shop vac, and plenty of power, but we should try to get a couple vacs to make sure everyone is able to get their cars clean.  Anything I am forgetting?

If you PM me I will send you my house address and any directions you may need to get here.  This sounds like a great time!

if everyone would like (and chip in) I could whip up a batch of my famous burbon BBQ ribs for an afternoon/lunch snack -- what I did a couple years ago for the suspension GTG.

I miss having Adam (a.k.a. Emerald Inferno & Mr. Chef) cooking for us at our past GTG's, so I'd guess I'm now the honorary chef here.
I could also do some sides in addition/instead of the ribs.

I'll also bring my Porter Cable buffer and a plethora of detailing products.

Just cleared this with my wifey. Last time I had to bum polish, wax, and buffer use from other people. I'll try to bring more supplies this time.

If you don't have your own buffer, I think there will be plenty there.  However, it might be a good idea to bring some extra pads for the Porter-Cables.

Pads for the porter are a great idea.  Also, please remember that some of this stuff is very expensive, and although I don't mind sharing some of my goods (I am talking about wax and polish!) in general plan to bring what you will need for your car.  I really recommend Detailer's Paradise (look at the beginning part of this post) because they know their stuff, and will set you up with everything you need, at a reasonable cost.

On a separate note, I delegate Alan as the Chef for the weekend, if that is alright with you, Allen! Ribs sound mightily good to me... ! :)  I have several extension cords, but feel free to bring some as well.  I have five electrical outlets, plenty of water (Thornton does not have water restrictions) and lots of time on my hands, so looking forward to it!

yeah, we don't want what happened at Jon's garage day a while back.  Good idea to mark your equipment and supplies, since there will probably be a bunch of identical looking buffers and bottles of wax, etc lying around all day long.

good, so I will need a head count 5 days before the GTG so I could buy and prep the meat -- I'm thinking my burbon BBQ ribs and Thai beef satay (the same stuff I made for the suspension GTG a while ago).

According to the Detailer's Paradise site for the 6 1/2" Pad Bundle:

"This bundle includes our 6 1/2" Yellow cutting pad, our Orange light cutting/polishing pad, our White polishing pad, our Black finishing pad and of course the 5" backing plate. The Paradise Pad Bundle includes everything you need to remove oxidation, swirls, spider webbing then finish with a glaze or wax. This bundle is an easy way to get started with specialized pads to expand your detailing prowess. The backing plate is threaded to fit Porter Cable Dual Action polishers such as the 7336 and 7424."

Hello everyone, just bumping the post!  Alan, connect with me and let me know what you will need to cook for everyone for lunch.  Also, does anyone have plans to bring some pop-up tents with them?  I live in a cul-de-sac, and I have smoothed things over with my neighbors, so we can put some in the street, and have several cars going at the same time!

How about renting one of those blowup castles and putting it in my front yard... I always wanted one of those when I was younger...

I'm meeting with Nick at Detailer's Paradise tonight. We live only two blocks from each other.

Also, I have a friend with a blow-up castle. You can get them at Costco for maybe $400. There is a weight limit though. I believe it is no individual over 100 lbs. and total weight less than 400 lbs. You'll have to get a "big daddy" castle.

Maybe I should stick to blowup dolls, they don't seem to have weight limits, and I didn't even have to get the "big daddy" model... well, maybe I should have... ;)

BTW - my sons B-Day is the 10th.  Lots of hanky panky during the holidays makes for lots of babies in the month of October.
