Alignment data --- are these good numbers?
« on: September 28, 2004, 02:22:08 PM »
Ok, I got an alignment and the computer printout of the data.  Are these numbers good  (I'm giving the final numbers below, not the initial ones)?  Anyone care to interpret?

Left Front:

Camber  -0.8 degrees
Caster     2.6 degrees
Toe          0.07"

Right Front:

Camber  -0.6 degrees
Caster     3.1 degrees
Toe          0.05"

Front:

Cross Camber   -0.1 degrees
Cross Caster      -0.6 degrees
Total Toe            0.13"
Set back             -0.18 degrees

From the Bentley for 98-00 Passats. I'm assuming you are FWD.

The numbers w/ the ' at the end stands for minutes. 60 minutes per degree.

For example, front camber from the chart can range from -50' to 0'.

-50*(1/60) = -0.833 degrees
0*(1/60) = 0 degrees

So your front camber is within spec. You'd think they'd try to make it as close to possible to -25' or -0.42 degrees, but oh well. You'll notice for the sport suspension (1BE), the camber is more, but you are not lowered. Have fun with the math!

Thanks Shummer.  Yes, I'm going to drive the Passat today for the first time since the alignment, so I'll at least see what it feels like.  Yes, the numbers are a little confusing, I agree.

Seeing as how you cant change camber on these cars (unless you add CPP adjustable CA's) if you don't all with in those numbers your car is messed up. You can adjust Toe. And thats it.
