why does my car hate me so much?
« on: September 30, 2004, 11:20:37 PM »
so i went to bandimere last night and drove my car kinda hard with no problems.  so today i'm driving along and gun it and my car falls on it's face then hops back up like nothing happened.  then about two hours later the dreaded check engine light comes on to reveal my cars extreme haterd for me or something...

p1237 injector cylinder 1 open circuit intermittent
p1238""2"""
p1239""3"""
p1240""4"""
p0300 misfire recognized inter.
p0301 cylinder 1 misfireS detected inter.
p0237 boost sensor signal too low inter.
p1137 bank 1 long term fuel trim (ADD) system too rich
p0102 MAF sensor signal voltage too low

this has got to be a record or something for most codes pulled.  any help would be great.  i can't figure out how i managed to blo another maf.  i don't have a k&n filter anymore.  this sucks so bad.

except for that one time, which was probably when i had the misfire, my boost has been fine.  in school today we pulled the number one coil but we put it back together right and it's tight and if that was the problem it wouldn't have happened just that one time.  my friend suggested i get my ecm flashed...what does that do/mean?

I think he means get the codes cleared and then see what happens.

Whay year is this car? Obviously it's a 2000 or later because it has a boost sensor, but more info is needed.

Are you guys pulling these codes on a VAG-COM or just some OBD II code reader at school? Generally VAG-COMs give a bit more info. Also, get a Haynse manual for the car and see exactly what each code is refering to in the list of CEL codes in the back of the manual. That is a strange list of errors. I say you did something not great to your car, but what I'm not sure.

And now for the "Dad" part of my post:

Yes, it is possible to drag race a Passat. But that doesn't mean you should do it! Passats are better equipped for road course track racing and even then they're pigs! They are family sedans that can be made faster. I'd suggest that if you want to drag race in the future you buy an old POS MK I or II Golf and stuff a big ass motor into it's stripped out shell and really go fast!

"Dad" part of the post is now over.

I would think that the coil packs are very suspect at this point.
I would clear the codes and see what witch ones come back and go from thier.

  I wrote something, then changed my mind. Sorry, wish I could help you. Does sound like a plug/coil problem though. Did you check the compression in each cylinder?

so i figured out how to solve this problem...i'm buying a 67 jeep commando and i'm putting the passat away for the winter.  then when summer gets here the problem will have gone away and i'll be making enough money to turn it into a track car.

i took that evil diode out at the track remember.  my friend still runs his and 17 pounds in his GTI with no problems.  plus i cleared all the codes it threw when i had it in a few weeks ago and none of them came back.  i'm gonna check out my grounds and all the wires to my maf because it's a low voltage code and the voltages check fine.  if someone with bently could send me a diagram showing what terminal numbers are going into the ecm i could check the resistances of the wires which would tell me a lot about what's going on.

Scott, I think he just meant to get one that was a POS, so you could get into a track car for cheaper.  I for one, love mkII's.

I love Sciroccos more of course, but dig the hell out of a nice mkII, like this:

Yummy!

Sarah, I wouldn't be surprised if your MAF totally needs replacement.  Most B5's end up needing this at one point or another.

You could build one really nice MKII out of this junk yard that I was in yesterday. they had tons of good stuff right here in the springs.

my maf is probably four months old.  i've already replaced it once because i had a K&N filter that fried it after i cleaned the filter.  i paid for a new one cause i don't have the stock parts...so if anyone has their stock box and wants to let me borrow it so i can have replaced under warranty that would be super cool!!!!!
