A Day at the Races with Pat! (Pics)
« on: October 19, 2004, 09:31:44 PM »
So I popped out to 2nd Creek Raceway today to see the guys running around out there. That and to VAG-COM Pat's car while he ran a few laps.

I think I like to be behind the wheel more so than being the passenger. Pat scares me.      But his car handled the track very well. I'll post up his data logging later in another thread.

But I did get a couple shots of him cruising the track and generally scaring off the purpose built race cars.        8)

And then a picture of the madness that happens later in the day at 2nd Creek Raceway!

Those are some great pix, Chas.  Thank you.
Oh, and what's this about being scared?  You never said anything about that when you were riding with me. :o
I think the only car that ended up being able to pass either of us was that mini-R8 lookin' thing and the black 993.  The M5 and the Carrera 4 that showed up after you left had some newbies in them, so they were taking it very easy.  Even the bikes must have had some newbies on them, or else they were just testing some equipment or something.  What a day.  We felt really good about the driving by the time we left.  Nice gratification.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about.  He passed me half way through the esses.  Yikes!  A lap later he broke his rear supsension and was pushed off the track.

Was the R8 looking car one of these?

http://www.racingconceptsllc.com/d-sports-racer.htm

These are imported for racing in the SCCA by a guy here in CO.  The body is supposed to be an exact replica of the R8 body, just 7/8 scale.  They are VERY fast (like 1:05s at Second Creek) and look awesome too.

Yep, that's it.  Same wheels and everything.  VERY cool car.
Just looked at my tires.  There seems to be some kind of cord showing.  Yikes!
Time to throw on the OZs, yo.

Oh, come on Pat, its not the cords you worry about, when you start seeing that metal mesh that you may want to consider using the other tires!  Had a thought, if I don't race on Sunday, you can mount my 17"s and use the Azenis Sports???  Good idea or Bad Idea???

As for the driving, Pat was doing very well the entire day, and ran many consistent laps.  It took me a couple sessions out to get into my groove, but by the end of the day, I was feeling extremely solid.

Hell yeah I'll take you up on the wheels and tires for Sunday.  I'd love to test those tires.  Thank you!

I wasn't really you scaring me Pat. I was just nervous being the passenger. I'm a better driver than a passenger. I hate not being in control in that kind of environment. I know you weren't going to go off track or anything, but still...

Know what I mean, Jellybean?

And the Hippo thing is Pat and Jason talking about which AWD system is better. Of course it decended into all out yelling match toward the end. I think Pat needs to brush his teeth more often.

That ,or it's just a funny picture I took on one of my many visits to the Denver Zoo with the kids...
