I just posted on that thread.  I thought SCR was closed forever?  What's is up with that place?

It will close forever.  They are open year round so it looks like they probably have through the end of the year weather permitting.

Thank you for posting that over here! ColoradoB5 sent me over here to post about our track day, but jayryan beat me to it!

We have about 20 people that are coming to this event, but will need plenty more for the prices to stand.

Details:
Weather permitting!
Prices are still pending, but if we can get ~10-15 more cars prices will stand at $60/full day.
Food/drinks will be provided at no extra expense(as long as you are driving)
No Bikes, only cars allowed for the day.
Anybody is welcome to come up.  :)

This sounds like a ball, but much like my other VW counterparts I will be at work.  Have fun for us.

So what happened man?  I thought you were gainfully employed?

I'd love to go as long as I get my new brakes in the mail hopefully next week and then put on by the 3rd. Jon a little help?

Van, I would be happy to help, although you know I am stuck to a weekday to get those done for you....I am free almost every Tuesday thru Thursday, so what ever works for you.

try to plan on at least 500 miles of break in if you can....you will want them well set before you push them...and so you don't glaze them.

Maybe consider leaving the stock ones in for track day, work them into the ground, then right after, we can put the new ones on so they can be set in properly and not fried first time out?

So I should put the new rotors, fluid, SS lines in with the old pads? Then after the track day, throw the new pads on? My brake pad light has been on for a couple weeks now. I don't know how well they'd hold.

BTW, I'm getting Powerslot slotted rotors, Motul 5.1 fluid, Stoptech SS Lines, and Pagid Sport pads. I'm really excited.

How long does it take to put on? Would it be feasable to have em on by 10 AM when I have to go to work?

I HOPE to receive the parts on Tues or Wed.

Van

edit: I just had an idea! I'm still under warranty, so maybe I'll get the dealer to replace my pads under warranty first. Then put in new rotors, fluid, lines. Then go to the track and burn the OEM's up before putting in new pads!

that is a thought...I would try not to use the new rotors either.....a member from Utah had new rotors on the track several years ago, new, now set in, no true heat cycles...and then he ended up glazing them and cracking them, and he only had about 600 miles on them.  He needed to replace them.

So, have the dealer replace your pads, drive the snot out of them on the stock rotors, then after track day, we can replace the rotors and pads.  I do not know how to bleed a system, or replace fluid...or lines for that matter, but if you can find a bleeder, we can figure it out.  My guess is it would take about 3-4 hours to do all rotors, pads and lines plus bleed the system.  Are we doing front and rears?

Front and rear Dr. Jon.

I am scheduled for Friday AM at Prestige to get the brakes replaced under warranty. Can I drive straight to the track and run em down?

Van

BTW, since I worked Thanksgiving, I get a scheduled weekday off so I'll take one in the next week or two. What sounds like a good day for you?

Thanks for the helping hand by the way.

I can do them on the 8th, 14th or 15th, I have other plans the other days.

make sure you hit every light on the way to the track after you get them replaced.  you won't stop great, but you will be fine

you pick a day, and lets get started like 9am, so I can sleep in a tad, if that is cool with you.

As long as its not too wet, we will be running cars all day long, so even if the track is wet in the morning, it should be dry by late morning/early afternoon.

Even if the track was totally wet (water only, not snow) in the morning you could still be driving at full tilt after only about a half hour of slowly lapping cars on the track. I've seen this done before and it works. Get about 10 cars on the track. No one goes over 20 MPH, ever! and with all the wind created by the cars and the naturally dry air we have here in Colorado the track will dry in short order.

We did this at a RMVR event years ago with vintage Corvettes, Tigers, Cobras, a Ford GT40 and a few other big bore cars at the Steamboat Spring vintage car races back in the early 90's. The rain had finally stopped and people still wanted to race that day. We had a few cars that were willing to slowly circle the track basicly dried it off very effectively.

That is if the folks at the track are willing to let you do it.

Good idea if Bob plowed the track - or do you have a lot less snow on the ground than we do in northern Colorado?
Our side roads are still ice covered. Is anyone going to check on the condition of the track by the morning? I'm trying to make it there by around noon, but would like to avoid a wasted trip.

Bob is plowing the track today, l don't believe anybody has driven on the track since the snow so there should not be any problem with the packed snow. I am waiting to hear back from him today and I will let everybody know.

If you want to PM me your phone number I will be able to get in touch with you that way.

Tomorrow is the only day I have to change out my suspension, so I won't be able to make it.  If I get done early, maybe Pat and I will head over to check it out.

Still have some Carbon Fiber work to do to so that may not happen.
