RMCB5 Holiday/Year End Party
« on: November 16, 2004, 05:02:20 PM »
So based on the poll on the homepage it looks like folks want to have one. This is not a "funded" event but would be like any other Burger & Beer GTG.  However, since the year is closing out and the holidays are fast approaching it would be nice to have a RMCB5 GTG somewhere as a last hurrah for the year.

I was thinking maybe the second weekend in December?  Like Saturday the 10th or Sunday the 11th.  We could pick a place that we can all meet up and get something to eat, a couple drinks and just catch up before the end of the year.

Anyway, shoot out your ideas, it would be nice to have it figured out by the end of the week as everyone will be dealing with Turkey Day activities next week.

EDIT:  Adding a Poll for the best date.

Rats, I will be in Germany and Belgium for the first two weeks of Dec, it'd have been fun to meet some of you.  On the plus side I'm going to Wolfsburg for a day to see the plant and museum.

Friday nights are always better for me since I won't have my son with me, so i'd say the 10th.

that weekend is bad for us.  Company holiday party and all.  We might be able to do that Sunday the 12th though.

Any of those days is good for me, but I voted for Sunday because more people might be free that day.  I figure most people will have holiday parties on a Friday or Saturday, but how many have them on Sundays?

How about downtown so the southern folks won't have to drive up north or vice versa?

I'm a fan of Wynkoop (and their beer), but am certainly not picky.

Weekdays are pretty much out for me as I am working at my job, carbon fiber or Ethan.  Weekends I am better at since I can hold those open.

Maybe we can do a weekday and a weekend party.

For the weekend one, I would also suggest some place downtown.  Because I would want to bring Ethan, I would also request a non smoking establishment.

Maybe we can talk Alan (either one!) into host another shindig!

Jon, could you make it on a weekend afternoon?  Say around 1 or 2pm?  If so, we could do that on a Saturday or Sunday and maybe it would fit everyone's schedule.  (maybe we could even throw in a short drive too?)

that would be hard, for Jer and I, it would be like showing up at 1-2am, then having to work 12 hours shifts starting at 6 am...after having worked a 12 hour shift the previous day...

Not worth the risk to the patients...so I pretty much do nothing over the weekends.

I was thinking of having another GTG at my pad sometime next month -- that could still be a possibility.

As much as I like the Wynkoop, we have been doing lots of GTGs there in the past.  A different venue would be a nice change.  I have a friend who works at Triste, which is a really cool bar (they also have a limited food menu) located across the street from Comedy Works.
Also Sarah wanted to do a Sushi night, which I'm totally down for.
Sonoda's in LoDo is great for large groups and the prices are reasonable.  Hapa in Cherry Creek and Japon in Wash Park are my favorites.

Keep in mind that restaurants in LoDo/Downtown are packed on weekends, so getting a large group in somewhere would be a real task.

We could even order ahead a couple large platters of sushi and have it at my place (and I could make some other Japanese dishes for those who are not into the raw stuff).  That would be cheaper, easier to mingle and we don't have to worry about parking or long waits.

What the consensous?

I will ALWAYS be down with sushi. And I think it would be a nicer environment for mingling with each other if it were at Alan's. Last time at Fado's it was a bit too loud to carry on a conversation, and we ended up spread out all over the restaurant. I would imagine most places would be like that unless we were able to reserve a space.

I think a pad party would be ideal...and sushi rocks....so I vote for that.

Cool, Sushi at Casa Wong it is!

I'm thinking platters of assorted sushi and sashimi, gyozas (potstickers), veggie tempura, and  Sapporo beer.
It's a Japanese theme, too bad we don't drive Japanese cars -- next time it will be German!

Feel free to bring your doggies, little Yuki needs some four legged friends.

I might have a bottle of good sake coming which I could bring as a contribution, since we are going with the Japanese theme. ;)

I will let you know by the 30th. My ex wife is taking a trip to Seattle over thanksgiving and has been tasked with bringing it back for me (can't buy this stuff by the bottle here in Denver! *sniff*).

Ooooh!   A doggie and Sushi party!  That could get dangerous!

I second Charles' idea of Sake to go with the Saporo.

This should be pretty fun!
