This was actually put on T-region here

It looks even nastier in the flesh...more like a Toyota..the long version of an Echo or something. I hate it. It'll probably be an acquired taste. I didn't like B5 when it first came out either

I always liked VW and Audi for the reason that they looked Euro...now this car looks distinctly Japanese. It's a copy of the RL...eerie

yeah its all hontoyoda-ish.... accord/RL front and a corolla rear.

Having said that, I think it looks better than all of those. Maybe an '.:R' packaged wagon would be more interesting, but I'm not a big fan of this new generic-for-the-masses design they've got going.

I like the aggresive Golf V front end, the side looks like an odd combination of a Corolla and Phaeton which I haven't warmed up to yet.

The interior is very nice.

Impressive transmission/drivetrain choices: a 100hp 1.9L TDI with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed DSG (from the TT), a 200hp 2.0L FSI 4-cylinder turbo mated to a 6-speed DSG or a 6-speed manual, and a 150hp 2.5L inline-5 (essentially half of a V10 engine and detuned from the Lambo Gallardo) with a 6-speed tiptronic or 5-speed manual (this replaces the current base 2.0L engine). A 3.2L VR6 with 4motion GLI/R32 is a possibility down the line.

Other cool options include: Xenon headlamps, Navigation system, Sportline Package (larger wheels, aluminum interior trim, stiffer suspension) and a Luxury Package (wood interior trim, heated leather seats and additional comfort and convenience features).

With all that stuff, it sounds like it should be a very hefty car.

Is it a case that VW looks Japanese, or is it the Japanese cars look more Euro?  Everytime I see a Maxima, it makes me wanna puke!

VW is losing touch with its market.

The rear 1/8 th of the car looks good, the rest looks distinctively Japanese, which is not always bad, but it's bad on a german car.  I like the new 7 series better and that is blech.

Actually I think I meant to say Altima, not Maxima.  I guess I will need to see it in person to make up my mind.  If the performance treaments are there, then maybe it may be worth it.

I am going to reserve judgement till I see it in person.  I remember a LOT of hype on Audi world when the A4 changed.  A lot of people were way pissed and did not like it.  Once it was seen in person though many started to change their minds and now... well I think they new body style is stunning.

I am hoping the same sort of thing will happen with the new Jetta.  I can't wait to see it.

Well I saw the new A6 in-person and I still dislike the massive fishmouth grill area.

Saw a couple at Stammler when I was there the other day, the front does not look good IMO (it may grown on me, we will see), but the rest of the car looks pretty good  (from what I remember anyways!).

The Jetta.... from the side it definitely looks like one of the other Japanese cars out there, but I haven't seen the front or rear view yet.

I really hated the look of the current Jetta when it first came out, but it really grew on me.
I'm hoping this new one will do the same.  It is certainly more substantial and upscale looking and not so much a chick car.

I already accepted and like the new big grille look of the A6, though I think the rear is too generic and too Saturn LS for my taste.

But IMO, I much prefer the 4 door Golf V in GTI or R32 form if it ever becomes available on our side of the ocean.
