2006 Passat official pics

These are apparently official pics that was just leaked to Autoweek:

Wondering how our taller American licence plate will fit on that chrome grille surround (like on the new Audis).

Looks smaller but sleeker, a dead ringer for the BMW 3-series.

The rear has hints of the Phaeton and new Jetta.

Interior guages inspired by the new A6 and A8, the heavy aluminum trim swath is very BMWish.

Hopefully it will get the VR6 engine from the R32 and the 6-speed DSG transmission from the TT.

Look at the C6 A6 front end for an idea on the plate.

Much better front than the "large-mouth bass" look by limiting the chrome trim around the grill. I still would like the front bumper to look continguous (i.e. painted). Too much black space for me. I think it does look Phaeton-ish. Does the trunk look too short (not long enough)?

Too much chrome for me.  I would still have all of the chrome painted body color and that rear end needs something in a serious way.  It looks too (dare I say it) much like a Camry.

Winston, I was thinking the same thing...I love the car up to the rear of the back door. The actual rear end face looks okay, but the way it's assembled, sloped, and designed makes it look small, Japanese and not continous with the lines and large sedan style of the front.

To me it looks a bit like two different cars. The front of a BMW and the rear of a Acura/Camery or something. It's like the designers just kinda slapped something together the closer they got to the rear of the car.

I love the interior though. I love the Phaeton interior. I just went and looked at the pics again and I'm liking the rear even less the more I look at it. The wheels are dumb too. They don't coordinate with the car.

I hope it looks better in person. I'll keep my B5. They should have just made it a smaller Phaeton. That'd been cool.

I hope this does not offend but...

I like the new Audi front ends, but this just looks... not right.

The photo just looks like the car is happily trying very hard to swallow it's license plate.

Ick.  The exterior is nasty, especially the roofline and the C-pillar/rear 3/4 area .  Waaaay bland.  I like the front better than the rest of the exterior.  On the other hand, I really like the interior.  I'm looking forward to getting a better look at those seats.

Post on the related forum at the bottom.  VW does actually read those.

Just read an article which stated that the Passat will be launched at Geneva in March and will go on sale in Europe in June. Uk sales are expected to start in September. Not sure when it will arrive in the US.

I read in the original article that they expected them to be on sale 3rd Quarter 2005, which would be July-September...My bet would be September.

i like the newer passats... this one doesnt seem to be a big change over the last one body wise..... they could have done better imo.

if you painted the lowers or threw a body kit on it it would be better
