automatically locking doors
« on: January 03, 2005, 02:53:19 PM »
Ok, so this weekend (in Steamboat), the onboard computer which I now refer to as Hal 9000, locked all of the doors with the key inside.   What's up with that?  It used to be that sometimes Hal would lock all of the doors EXCEPT the driver's door, but this is ridiculous.  I had to pry the door open and use the old coat hanger routine.  Not amusing.

Is there some programming feature that does this?  How can I make Hal pay for his tricks?

I hate to do it, but I am laughing my ass off right now at this post.

Okay, settling down. Mike, I firmly think your car is posessed. This same thing I believe happened to someone else not too long ago.

I would VAG-COM the locking system and see if there are any errors.  Also check out the remote and make sure the buttons aren't sticking. Something is really out of whack.

It sounds like the ECU might need a reboot ;)

The CCM doesnt like you very much.  When you lock the door using the lock button on the door panel, it will lock all doors except the drivers door.  Only exception to this is if you have a faulty door lock mechanism.  Do a VagCom and search the CCM for any door faults.  More then likely there might be a few in there.

Ok, sounds like I need to schedule a VAGcom vs. Hal 9000 death match.  The only problem is that I don't have VAGcom.  Any volunteers in the Boulder area?

Also, while we are on the subject, can someone give me the skinny on VAGcom in terms of price, etc?  I'm considering buying one since I'm obviously at Hal's mercy without one.

ps  My buddy who has a TDI golf was laughing his butt off when this happened.  Since I have a sordid history of lost keys, he thought this was the greatest.....

I really hated how loud the door locks are and how it automatically locks after you go over 15mph, so I got the automatic locking feature disabled by the dealership.

I've been thinking about picking one up myself. AS I plan on keeping the passat for quite a while, Two scans at the dealership would come close to paying the unit off.
Happy hunting,

There's a thread in the Maintenance forum with a list and I'm sure there are some people in the Boulder area with one.
