Track Day
« on: June 19, 2003, 08:14:39 PM »
Alright, we've been talking about going to SCR a lot, but haven't done anything to get there.  I'm really getting the itch to drive, especially since being out there a couple weeks ago and not driving myself.  If we can get a group of five of us out there, the price drops from $60 to $48 each for half a day of track use.  Anyway, here's the schedule for SCR over the next few weeks.  The track should be open for us except for the following dates.  Let me know who'd be in and when is best for you.

July 5th & 6th SCCA Club
July 12th & 13th Porsche Club of America
July 19th & 20th RMVR
July 26th & 27th MRA
August 2nd & 3rd SCCA Club
August 9th & 10th Multi-Car Club
August 16th & 17th Porsche Club of America
August 23rd & 24th SCCA Club
August 30th & 31st Mini Truck

By the way, I spoke with Bob (Track Manager) and he said that stuff about SCR being closed after this year is a load of crap.  Straight from the horses mouth, he said there will be no changes at the end of this year.

Woo hoo!

Looks pretty normal, all Sats and Suns covered but those Fridays are always open.

You know July 4th is a Friday, and is a Holiday.  I know I don't have to work.  I also know a lot of people will be going camping, out of town, partying etc, but it could be a possibility.

I'd definitely be in for 7/4, although I'm a little worried about it being busy.  I think we could counter that by getting out there by 8:00 or so and drive until noonish.[/i]

If we get significant interest in this date, I'll give Bob and call and ask him what his thoughts are about how early we can access the track and how much interest he's had in the track for that day.

Going to check with wife regarding July 4. Sounds like fun! I'm sure my bro will be down with it too.

I will be out all week on vacation, but I am definitely interested in going once this summer, especially while it is still so cool...

I'm in for a July 4 morning session! That would be ideal. My brother is checking into his plans - he is a maybe.

Hmmmm... the morning of the 4th would be interesting. I'll have to check and see what my (my wife's plans are   ) that day.   But it would be fun to get out there and run around a little.

Remember, helmets are required and it's a good idea to have one of your own that fits you perfectly. Sharing helmets is such a pain and sliding on someone else's sweaty head gear is nasty to say the least.  :(

Cheap helmets are available from most motorcycle stores.

Are people firm on this event?

1. Pat
2. Jay
3. Andrew
4. JR
5. Chas

That makes 5 for the discounted price. Still waiting to hear from my brother. Any more interest in this? Are there any Audiworld folks coming? Just wondering how soon I need to get a helmet from Jon.

Oh, I'm firm alright.  In more ways than one.
Anyone wanna loan me a helmet?
I'll call Bob this afternoon at SCR to ensure the track is available.

Well, I just spoke with Bob.  The SCCA is moving in that weekend.  He expects around 140 cars there for the weekend, many of whom he thinks will be there Friday the 4th.  Sounds like that's bad timing to me.
Rick Snyder has reserved the track for a few Wednesday nights over the next couple months.  We could try to do that if you want.
Also, Bob said Thursday the 3rd would likely be dead.  I know the 4th was a popular option since we all have off work, but what are your thoughts about other days?

From Coloraudi.com:

Summer Track Days
Thanks to Rick Synder, there is one Wednesday night a month for us Audi guys to get together at Second Creek Raceway. These are open sessions, for cars only, from 5pm to dusk. The track will be shared with whoever shows up, but it's always fairly quiet.
All of these sessions are $60/car, but if we can get 5 cars, then it's $240 for the group or $48/car. Here are the dates:
June 18th
July 16th
August 13th
September 17th
October 1st
Saturday (May 24th) is a open test and tune day for cars only, and Monday (May 26th) is open test and tune for whoever shows up.

One of those Wednesday nights sounds like a good plan.  July 16 maybe?  My work is usually flexible though, so July 3rd or any other day would work too.  Just need to borrow or buy a helmet and I am there!

July 16th might be better for me, now that I think about it. I am spending a week (July 7th thru the 14th) in California to work on a 2 hour show to aire on Animal Planet. SO after a weeks worth of trekking all over Cali. I'm going to need a bit of un-winding. And what better way to do than on a Race track?!

Yes You guys are invited to this. It's the first day of our Global GTG which is Friday August 8th. Our time is from 11am to 3pm. So show up to Second Creek accordingly. Since so many people are coming to this we're pretty much going to wait for everyone that wants to run get there, then add up the total and go divide up the cost. Plus we all know there's a million diff packages they do so we'll see what gives us the biggest bang for the buck. We were qouted $48 per group of five but that was with I think 28 people running. We have close to 35 without you guys so the price should go down.

Just meet there about 10:30, you won't be able to miss us, we have close to 35 DCI member racing from all over the world. Should be tons of fun. You all have Wendys number you can call her if you have any problems, she be there. Or you can call my house at 303.394.4503.

This event is not open to everyone. Its pretty much you, 719 & of course us. If you have a couple friends that would like to come feel free to bring them.

Man, after learning it's from 11-3, on a weekday I'm not sure I'm gonna come.  If it were the whole day I might be willing to take off.  Or even all morning or all afternoon (half day of work).  But to take off all day for the four hottest hours of the day on the track doesn't sound like it's gonna be worth it for me.  Sorry, but I'm out.  Have fun anyway.
