anybody do their 2004 taxes yet?
« on: January 19, 2005, 09:32:04 PM »
Haven't received my official W-2 forms in the mail, but I can view the info on-line with my company's payroll web-site. Started doing some rough numbers (still waiting for end-of-year statements from people/places) and things are looking good! Some day I'll figure out my withholdings so that I get more each month instead of waiting for the stupid return. I'll post official numbers in a few weeks. What are you guys looking at? Refund? Owe? I think Winston is going to like his child tax credit.

Got all of my forms back last week or so.  Still waiting on my W2 to come in.  I usually get a grand or so, so Im hoping to get a little more this year.  Will help pay towards school and some bills.

General Evil has yet to get me my W-2...

But when they do, and I get the check...  I'm gonna pay some CC bills, save for a 2 plane tickets (to Paradise- crappy Eddie Money reference, couldn't help myself) and finally get my new exhaust, front binders, 18's and tires...

You just gotta keep on livin', man. L-I-V-I-N...

Holy shnikies!  If you're getting that much back you might want to consider lowering the witholding.  You're basically loaning the government the money that you could be using.  That said, enjoy the big check!

I haven't even thought about mine yet.  I am usually a procrastinator - running to the post office late on April 15th.  then again I have been pretty good at my withholding, so my refund is usually small, and I have even had to pay in the past.  :-(

I thought I had my withholdings figured out (5 at married rate) until they withheld a flat 30% on the bonus in December. Like Pat said, I'm trying to minimize my tax return: goal is <$1K.

Holy Crap! No joke! That's alot of money...I've usually ended up getting less than 1k, but since my wife and I file jointly and we own a house now, I think it's gonna be a bit more. If there's anything left after the carpet, we'll use it on some bills or something, I don't know...I'll let her figure it out  I'm too lazy.

Starlight B5. You'd have to get new piping...but as far as I remember, he's still got his and was trying to sell it at one time. Of course, he may be keeping it for his next car, I don't know.

Yeah I'm still using the US Federal Income Tax Savings Account Plan (tm). Which is basically: set everything to '0' and hope for the best in April. Haven't received my W2 yet either.

Ha, I usually leave it to the last minute!

Nothing special I'm going to buy from my return -- it will go towards my credit card bill. :(

still waiting on froms from employer and investments.

Pat...what was the site you hooked me up with last year for my taxes?  I want to go the same online route for filing again this year, that was easy.  I forgot where i signed up and with my last computer crash, I lost that info.

Jon, get outta town!  Where you moving to?  Centennial maybe?  Oh well, I could only wish.

Was the online site www.turbotax.com?  I've used that one for several years and have always been happy with it.

I am not too worried.  You see I do not pay my taxes, THE MAN TAKES THEM RIGHT OUT OF MY PAY CHECK

If you ask me the system is backwards.  They TAKE your taxes and the you have to fill out a bunch of paperwork to get them back.  Should be the mans job to do the paperwork and bill me. :D

Good point.  :)

It could be way worse though.  For instance in Jesus time the Tax collectors could take just about as much as they wanted.  Just cause they felt like it.  "Ok Ishmael, if you dont pay me we break your legs"

I know, but what was the web site we went through, it was a discounted fee, and I did not need to buy the program.  It was some financial site, but now I can not remember the name.  they have my saved info, so it is easier to file or something like that.

Wasn't there some talk of going to all sales tax and doing away with income tax? I'd be all for that - nobody really understands what the hell is going on with income taxes.

Well the government is not breaking legs these days, but they do had out other punishment.  Make a mistake and the MAN is at your door just the same.

As for an all sales tax system - I am for that.
