Major Weekend Wrenching
« on: February 09, 2005, 08:45:52 PM »
This weekend I have the following projects slated for my car.

1. K03 sport turbo replacement - old one is bad and sounds like a supercharger
2. Brake fluid flush - 2 year on the old, it is time
3. Transmission oil flush and replace
4. Oil change - have to drain to do turbo
5. Install turbo timer - Do not want to replace turbo again

Fun fun!!!

Well my weekend plans were put on hold.  The shop in Steamboat where I was to do the work was being cleaned and re-painted, so it has been put off for a week or so.

I did get the Turbo Timer installed, what a pain in the @$$.

Nice, I wired up one of my city lights, added missing bolts to the headlights so they don't "bounce." Found the horn that I thought was missing (just need to figure out why it doesn't work now).

I also got a work out kick starting my motorcycle for an hour.  My legs are a little sore today.  I might start a new work out program for bikers.  The high step kick start.  Good cardio, a lot like doing stairs.

I am doing it at my house, so my redneck neighbors can see what real wrenching is

I get my own wrenching to do this weekend.

Went to take a motorcycle ride last Sunday but battery was dead and wouldn't hold a charge.  To get the battery out, I had to take the bike apart - taking the faring off and pulling the gas tank.  battery was under there.  this week I found a replacement battery, now I get to re-assemble everything.

When I finish that it is back to hanging insulation and pegboard on the garage walls.  If anyone feels compelled to use a staple gun on the insulation    feel free to join me.

Well I got it done :!:

Thanks to my friend Mark and Andrew it took just shy of 8 hours to do the entire tear-down, replacement, rebuilt and testing of the turbo.  I now know more about the turbo system in our car and can only say WOW!

My car is now back to it's old self.  Boost is back up to normal levels adn power is back to it's peak.  I am very happy about how quiet it is not too.

We examined the turbo for the cause and it was obvious once we looked at the exhaust housing for the turbo.  it was craked like an egg shell.  Hairline and larger then hairline fractures all over.  Exhause was leaking out the housing and past the turbine, thus the loss of boost and power.

Big shout out to Andrew for the coolant run and for comming over and offering his moral support.  YOUR NEXT MAN!

LOL, I don't know that it is as much self control as a lack of time with kids.  They just take all of it and your car falls a little below the family pet for love...
