Yes, Pat has posted about the track day.  The events this year will be the Memorial Day weekend, so make sure to mark that on your calendars.

I think he wants to know WHAT ELSE is planned, other than track day. ;)

Yeah, do we want to have a BBQ, drive or something?

I would like to see a drive up to a BBQ spot in the foothills.  We could all park, bring the family and hang out and grill all day, throw the frisbee, etc.

Also another drive would be cool too.  The Peak to Peak drive last year was awesome.  I want to do that again, but we can always find another good one...

Hey, has anyone driven that brand new road from I-70 to Central City?  It breaks off from 70 and goes north just before you get to Idaho Springs.  It looks like it'd be a great drive, although maybe short.  Maybe we could combine it with Lookout Mtn or something?
I like the idea of a BBQ in the mountains.  If we do that, we better reserve a space soon, since that's Memorial Day weekend and I'm sure the mountians will be packed with people doing the same.

Are you guys up for a weekend event up at the Royal Gorge?

We are trying to plan an event up there, and would like to gauge what kind of response we would get.

Mike, are you talking about during the Memorial Day weekend?  That's what we are trying to get planned here.

I have actually never been there.  Are there some good drives in the area?  I know that the drive to Salida from Colorado Springs is a pretty nice drive, and I know that RG is near there, but have not seen it myself.

I haven't been up there for driving, so I don't know of any good canyon roads up there, I know Mark does and I will ask him when he gets in this morning.

I didn't realize that this is what you had planned for Memorial weekend. Mark and I have been discussing some sort of weekend event, and Royal Gorge seemed like a good plan.

Alright...Sunday, let's do a drive and BBQ. However, we need recommendations for BBQ/Frisbee spots.
Throw 'em out. I'm more than willing to do the planning but don't know the spots. Once we get a spot, we can plan the drive around it.
But, we need to get one soon in case we have to reserve space due to the Holiday weekend.

We could also do a long drive on Monday morning through noonish. I know Grag and and I were attempting to organize the long weekday drive. We could part of that as well.

Or we we can swap foothills drive/BBQ for Monday with a long drive on Sunday. That would make the long drive after the track day though and some might be worn out.

Let's discuss and suggest.

If you took Highway 115 south to Highway 50, that is an AWESOME drive... I would totally be down for a Royal Gorge trip... would you like some of the 719 guys to plan that since we are closer?

Also, please take note of the suggestion I made on Vortex... here is the thread:

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?&id=1883309

For those lazy folks in the crowd, here is what I posted:

VW's on the Green is the 15th of May and Dubs Along trhe Rockies is June 26th, that is 6 weeks between them. Would anyone be down to do a poker run ending at the top of Mt. Evans in between there?

If this sounds like a plan, then I will be happy to help out in the planning, but what is a fair "buy in" for everyone? I was thinking we do ti like this:

$5.00 buy in with a minimum of 30 people

$65 for best hand
$30 for 2nd best
$25 for 3rd best

As for dates I was thinking either the 29th of May or the 12th of June...

That leaves $30 to pay for the gas of the folks who set it up! If we have more than 30 cars we could expand the payouts down to 4th or 5th place.

Anybody like that plan?

Anybody want to help put it together?

All payments would be done via PayPal by the way....

and now that I think about it... a Poker Run from Mt. Evans down to the Royal Gorge would be kind cool!

Highest point to lowest point... and one HELLUVA drive!

What is that spot where Chas took us?

Here's a picture of it, but I can't remember much about it or how to get there...

It looks like it has plenty of room for a BBQ and some frisbee throwing.

I'm diggin' it. We could definately do a poker run...it'd be fun.

That site looks great Winston...think we'd have to call and ask if BBQ is okay? They have rules on all that stuff now.
