since all my other cars have had Xenon, I had to make the conversion.  Nothing compares to the visibility of HIDs. I like the look of the 6000K, but think there is better light with the 4300K, so eventually I will change out bulbs.

Thanks man.....

I thought they would be much harder to install, but they are truly plug and play.  Have fun this weekend....

Where did you get these?  What would be involved to do this on my Golf?  My lights Suck.  With a capital S.

There are many places online to order kits that replace your OEM bulbs.  Most are plug and play.  I went to HID Express and ordered them to replace the H7 bulb.  Depending on what is in your Golf, you would need to order that kit.  Complete kits run from about $250 to $450.  Remember, you get what you pay for, and there will need to be some minor modifications to your car to get the ballast wires into the light housing.  Overall, not difficult at all.

I think having projectors would be recommended as well due to over-reflection of standard housings. However, I don't think anyone's ever mounted HID's to the reflective housings.

Hey Jon,

Do you have a source for projectors and HID kit for a 2001 Outback? I've searched briefly and it is looking really expensive to do the wife's ride.

Hopefully this will not journey off topic, but I was curious if we could talk about the various light options.  Like I have heard of OEM projectors, Hella Projectors..  What I want is angel eyes with the HID capabilities... I think.  Basically I want angel eyes with sweet lights for visibility.  What do I need to get?

From everything I can see, there is not cheap outlet for aftermarket lenses.  There are some for the 2001, JDM (Japanese market) but otherwise, not many choices.  Best thing to do is get a new car, hehe.

My guess, but the time all is said and done, shipped, and installed, you are looking at around $1200.  Put that money towards a car with Xenon or projectors and Halogens.

As far as Xenons in reflectors...YES it has been done,   My MINI is Xenon and reflector, so are Acura, some Mercedes, and some Cadillacs.  So, you can do either.  for the direct projectors OEMs, you use a D2S, for reflector OEM you use D2R.  but all the conversion kits are specific to the light that comes with the car.

Not a fan of Angel eyes on the Passats.  Makes it seem like a BMW wanna be.  So, to each his own.  ;)

Jon, thanks. That helps me out alot as I would like to do this in both the Jetta and the Passat. I like the look of reflectors better in the Passat but still wanted to do HID's.
Thanks :P
