From OEM Halogen to 8000K Xenon last night....1.5 hours

From OEM Halogen to 8000K Xenon last night -  8O  :D

I do not hink I can drive a car with out Xenons ever again, what a huge difference it made.  I am waiting for the sun to set tonight so I can really get a good bit of night time driving under my belt.

I want some so bad.  I can hardly see at night right now.  I probably need to adjust my beams to though...

Andrew, find out which bulbs you have. There's a possible third round GB on passatworld right now you should try to get in on.

how do you like the purpleness of them?  I think my 6000K are a bit too blue, but I am used to 4300K and that is the most "usable" light.  I am sure no matter what Xenon you go with, it is an improvement over OEM halogens, but wondering how the road looks.  I have heard that the 8000K are horrible in the rain, so when it rains, go out and drive, and give us a review :)

Pics!  I need some visual gratification!

Congrats, Randy, that is such a worthwhile mod, I really want to do that soon as well.  I am interested in seeing the 6000K vs. 8000K side by side...

Sounds like we need an evening burger beer night GTG to make some comparisons, hopefully someone with 4300K will also be there and we can do a REAL comparison.

I've got silverstars and they suck. My PIAA Xtreme whites were much better....Then I also have a no name brand on my highs and they're freakin' bright!
So basically, I think Sylvania's claims are bunk. Real world use shows no closeness in output to HIDs.

Last night I only got a few minutes of driving in, I was so blown away by the difference I did not have much time to really get a feel for the color.

Tonight on the way home from work i have to drive 30+ miles in a variety of settings (residential and highway) so i will have a good feel for the light color.

I will post more in the AM.

As for the GTG to compare lights, let me know when and I will be happy to be there.

I can provide that part of the comparison.

Neat Randy! What kit did you end up getting, the X5 8000K?

Let me know when and where for the HID/Xenon show off/down/photo shoot GTG.

As for the color of 8000K, it's not really purple like you are thinking Jon. It's just a very blue light.

The place that I got my kit from offered bulbs in the 12000K range! Now that is freaky purple! No thanks.

Oh, and I still get a kick out of how the bulbs start up when you turn the HL switch. Big flash and then they just keep getting brighter and brighter until full burn is underway!!!

Congrats Randy.  I have basically the same kit (H7 8000K) that i need to install.  Did you change out any of the fuses (I believe #'s 21 & 22 from 10amp to 15 amp?) and did you pull the DRL/173 relay?

I really wanted to go lower on the Kelvin spectrum but I bought Xedos69 sample set right after his group buy deal fell through and a few days before the new group buy opened up.  If the 8000K is too blue I'll change bulbs out down the road.

I did not chages any fuses.  I have disconnected the DTRL on my Euro switch, so I will not be running the Xenons all the time.

After driving home lastnight I can say the lights are what I wanted and expected.  I will have to adjust to the new pattern of light that I lay down on the road now.

One major advantage is that the sides of the road are much more visable and I can look farther down the road - both are big help for night time driving.  I am waiting to see how they react in rain and snow.

Randy, pull relay 173, that solves the problem....for those that have not disconnected DRL's on the B5.5.

we should all get together at the comedy club next week and do a comparison...Andrew has some free tickets...see the GTG section.

That is right near my house as well, hehe, so an easy drive for me.
