Wheels for sale? (Damn flat tires!)(S4)
« on: March 11, 2005, 07:16:41 PM »
So I have been having some flat tire issues. I seem to have slow leaks in at least 3 of my tires. Tehy randomly turn up very low. Always at different locations so I know it is not someone letting air out.

This morning my right front was totally dead! Won't even inflate!

I have been putting off buying wheels and tires for a couple of reasons. A)not sure what I want yet B) wanted to wear these ones down a bit.

So here are the options.

A) buy two new tires for the existing wheels and maybe face the same deamons. (and keep a tire size and wheels I don't really like )

B) buy a set of Fliks with tires to get me by until I find something I really want.

C) buy a set of wheels from someone locally to accomplish the same as option B.

D) scramble to make up my mind and drop too much money on wheels I may not really like anyway.

I have no spare for this car and am "Audi-less" at the moment until I get tires/wheels on it!

I chose my 18x8.5 BBS RK II's based on the following reasons:

1.  Looks - They looked much better than stock AVUS
2.  Wieght - More than 5 lbs lighter than stock per wheel
3.  Strength - Ability to handle Colorado's worst road conditions
4.  Repairable - Ability to replace outer rim if badly damaged

I have hit some nasty potholes and badly damaged road surfaces in the last two years and have not had any damage or warping of these wheels or any problems with balancing them.  I also have been using Goodyear GS-D3 tires which have a large lip protector which has helped keep scaring off the lips of these wheels.  GS-D3's way-out perform the stock Michellin Pilot Sports in many ways.  I would suggested them to anyone who can afford them every 20-25k miles (maybe less if you track a few times a year).

If your car is driven 50% or more of the time I would suggest a little function over performance in the wheel area; unless you like dropping money on wheels every couple sets of tires or every few pot holes :D

I'd be interested to know the source of the slow leak issues - you'll probably want to either use those wheels or sell them, either way it would be good to know if they are leaking or not. Maybe the valve stems??

Having said that.... sounds like as good a time as any to pull the trigger on some new wheels!

What size are you thinking about?

I'm a big fan of BBS as well, but as I've said my CHs are a little on the heavy side at 24lbs. If you feel like coughing up the cash (ouch!) you could go forged - stronger and lighter... but crazy expensive.

I'd take a look at the classifieds all around and see if there is anything you like out there somebody is selling. I found my wheels on audiworld forums, and the deal I got helped me decide on the style!

Those Justice wheels would look amazing on the S4 too.... Plus they are 18x8 which I think is a better size than 8.5 because of clearance.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I was thinking about a set of the "High Gloss Flik Justice" wheels in 18"s.

They are fairly cheap at $150 per wheel and from what I have read a pretty durable wheel.
