New Passat owner with some Questions??
« on: March 17, 2005, 02:52:49 AM »
Whats going on all? I just purchased a 2003 GLS 1.8T from Al Serra Chevy on Fri, Traded in my Nissan Frontier for her, Got a he#$ of a deal and I am very happy. I do though have few ?'s. First, does the prior owner of this B5.5 I just bought post here? The car is white, its DEFINITLY been mod'ed, its got an after market exhuast, its beened chiped, not sure which, I was hoping you all could help me find out though; its been lowered and finally it has a boost gauge. Not sure anything else. From investigation, I can tell it had ALOT of custom stereo work, and it was a show car. Just looking to see if the prior owner still has the trunk interior, if not I have to find a nice donor car to replace it with. I appreciate all your help and I look forward to posting more! Thanks

Erik

Heh, I have a feeling this is the one from VWOTG last year, you are in the Springs right?

I would check in at www.edition719.com.  I am pretty sure you have the car that won the Passat class last year at VWOTG.

Oh, of course, welcome! Let us know if you have any questions, this is one heck of a helpful group!

Yeah I am in the springs! I live on Peterson. Pardon my Naive-ness but what is VWOTG?? Thanks for the warm welcome. Where is the ECU located, so I can find out what chip has been installed? Thanks

Erik -

VWOTG = Volkswagens on the Green.  It is an annual VW show here in Colorado.

As for the ECU, it is located in a black weatherproof box near the firewall int eh engine bay.  However, it may not be real easy to figure out which chip you have and just cracking open the ECU isn't always the best thing.

Keep in mind I had an upsolute chip in my old Passat.  The way it worked is they removed the stock chip, flashed it, reprogrammed and re-installed the chip.

No one would ever know which chip it is if they looked because it is the stock chip that has been reprogrammed.

If you hit up the edition719 forums they might know who the owner was and maybe you can get in touch with him to find out.

I thought so! I am NOT complaining at all about having the chip, it is an ABSOLUTE rush! But it would be nice to know which one is providing my rush!   . I will do some snooping around on the 719 board. Thanks for your inputs!

Welcome!

An easy way to tell if there is a chip in your car is to look at the boost levels on your gauge.  More then 11 Psi is a good indication of software being present in the ECU.  if it was flashed with Revo you can see it on a vag-com, if you know where to look.

You could also bring it to the Dyno Day on the 26th and see what it puts down. :D
