The VW I can't have
« on: April 13, 2005, 03:41:26 AM »
while we get the introduction of the Jetta V, overseas they just had the intro of the Golf/GTI V.

This is one model I would love to have but will not be available nor equipped like this here:
GTI 4-door

The 17" (18" optional) wheels look really nice.

The 4-door has much nicer lines from the side than the 2-door, IMO:

Just look at the shape of the C-pillar.

Sport cloth seats in the traditional tartan pattern found in sporty german cars of the 70's:

DSG transmission based from the TT which is a dual clutch semi-automatic transmission which is actually faster than the 6-speed manual.

Now add a B&B body kit (though it loses the big grille look):

The R32 (Golf IV) already comes in a 4-door in Europe, can't wait to see the 4-door Golf V R32!!!

It is actually supposed to be called the R36, and they expect it in 2007 or 2008.

As for the Mk5 GTI.... let me just say that there is some chance of you seeing one sooner than later...  8O

Anyone know when the Golf V will be released in the US?  They are way sweet looking!  I called a few dealers here in town and they didn't have a clue...

I think I might buy 2 door TDI for commuting to work and around town.  If they bring them back... Last year here was 2003 for Mark IV. It would be really cool if they brought the GTI TDI-PD 150 hp model here :D  Never know since the new US diesel fuel standards going into effect in 2006 :)  More and more of the european diesels are coming to the US now, because of new cleaner diesel.

I love my 2002 GTI, but I  think I may have to trade up when they get here.  Those interior seats are awsome.

I will have to say this is one case where the 4 door looks better than the 2 door. The two door still looks like a Honda Civic.

I like the 4-door a little better too, surprisingly enough.  The two door does look a little too diminutive.

agree about the 4 door.  You also know the edition to be released over here won't be as low and won't look as hot.  It is the American way.

But that can all be changed

And even though it is faster, I don't think I'd give up rowing through the gears for anything in the world.  Some car companies are even charging extra for manual transmissions over automatic or "semiautomatics" nowadays. One example, Pontiac GTO, about $700.  Now just wait, before you know, the tables will be turned, and a manual tranny will be a $2,500 option! Es lebe die guten alten Zeiten!

Drove an A3 while mine was in for maintenance, I really liked it a lot.  The 2.0 Turbo felt nice, a lot more torque than the 1.8T.  Didn't drive a long time, but from what I felt, very nice ride.
