What is up with the alignment?
« on: April 24, 2005, 11:50:54 PM »
Hey all, so I have a 99 variant.  I have noticed some uneven tire wear, so alignment time.  In reading around what is up with these cars and getting the aligned?  What is so special about it?  Also since it is a pita, where is a good place to get it done.
Thanks,
Shawn

Shawn,

I don't know much about your car, i.e. if it is all wheel drive or front wheel drive.  But I know that for my car, which is all wheel drive, I have my alignments done at a place that has the Hunter laser alignment tool.  I'm not sure why, but it has been recommended by those more knowledgeable.

If this applies to you, I wouldn't be able to tell you where in Denver to take your car for this.  Some shops have it, some don't.  A simple phone call would do to figure this out for yourself, though.  If your car is lowered at all, I wouldn't recommend bringing it to a normal shop like brakes plus or Midas, from a bad experience that I witnessed. My friend brought his lowered 2001 Jetta to a Car-X out here in St. Louis, and even though the car is only about as low as my car with the stock sport suspension (not that low), they bottomed it out and damaged some of the underside.  If you're lowered, you might want to take it to somewhere that is used to dealing with lowered cars, like a tuning shop.

The 2 best places I have seen for alignments (around Denver)
are

Werner's Mastertek out near Lowery in Aurora, and Tire Source in Boulder.

I've had good luck with these people, fast, friendly, and professional. They did my lowered car when Firestone couldn't
