headlights perform on the early model 2001 GLX 4Motion.  I am not ready to step up and upgrade to the completely to HID, so I guess this may be the next best step?  Any input on performance would be great, or maybe a better alternative.

Silverstar headlights? I have Sylvania Silverstar bulbs and they're just that - replacement bulbs. They are marginally better than stock. They're a bit whiter in color. That's about it. They're still halogen. Cannot compare to HID period.

I don't like 'em. I was much happier with the Piaa Xtreme Whites.

Thanks for the replies guys.  I'll look into the Piaa Extreme Whites.  I'm just not too familiar with my Passat yet, and I am just not comfortable switching over to Xenon.  I want to but...just can't risk doing the work myself, and I don't know any trustworthy mechanics down here in Pueblo.  But thanks again for the info!

When is the next GTG or event?  I really would like to get out and meet everyone.

I have silverstars and the light they give off is amazing.  I have them as brights (I have hids), but with the jetta and their crappy projection, I don't think it will really help you much unless you actually change the lenses to you have different reflection lenses for brights and dims.

I felt, even with my crappy Passat lenses, that the Xtreme whites gave off better light than do my current silverstars.

In any case, I'd expect the next MAJOR GTG will probably be DATR with a pre-show detail day the day before. I would love to set it up, but I don't have the room to host. You should come out for the weekend. I'm sure someone would be more than happy to host you for a night.

The improvement is dependent on the beam pattern of your headlights.   The golf/gti is probably the best of the us spec headlights and would notice more of an improvement over a b5 or jetta.

That said, check out the Philips VisionPlus from powerbulbs (I see Huevon already posted the link).  Having used the Philips VP, the Osram (and Silvania) Silverstars, and the PIAA Xtreme Whites,  I would go with the VP because they put out the most light, but the PIAAs appeal if you are looking for a WHITE light.

Check out this link for some general info:
