Help! Anyone in the Parker & Iliff area with a VAG??
« on: June 28, 2005, 12:37:52 PM »
***Sorry it is early in the AM*** 225 and Iliff... NOT Parker***

The wife has thrown her THIRD cel since being chipped via APR on Sunday at DATR.  I have spoken with APR several times now and they are needing the code to help diag the issue.  We can clear up but have now way of reading the issue.

Is anyone near/around the 225 and Iliff area that could help out.  Willing to travel to you and buy ya a beer or something at a later date.  We just need to figure out what this issue is as it seems to be pointing to a boost issue.

THANKS!

O... and in case you are wondering... I AM PISSED!

Just to give some more background info on this...

Here is a partial e-mail that has been sent to APR:

I am trying to find out the possible reason for getting two CELs since my new install of EMCS software.  My wife is currently at work and the car has not been driven for about 8 hours.  I am wondering if a throttle body alignment will resolve the issue - as that has not been done.

The car is the following:

2004 Passat 4Mo 1.8T tiptronic ~11,000 miles on it

Serial number for the EMCS is 25353

It is loaded with stock, 91, 100, fault code/TBA

This was installed yesterday 06.26.05 at Dubs Along the Rockies by Chris.

After an hour or so drive home, we stopped at the story and shut the car off.  I then started it, drove off, accelerated into traffic and got my first CEL.  I then stopped the car and cleared the CEL.

The second occured this morning (06.27.05) on cold start up.

I have an OBD-II reader that I use to pull my codes...I can bring it into work today (1-25 and Dry Creek).  We could meet over lunch and pull the code.

Well, I was near 225 and Iliff on Sunday afternoon to return a tux.  oh well, probably won't be back down that way for a while.  If you want to venture north to brighton this evening I would be glad to read the codes for you.

there is probably someone closer though...

Holy crap, you weren't kidding! That sucks man, hope you get it figured out. Hopefully it is just a software issue that can be cured without any hardware alterations.

I will post most definately - Thanks a ton Ian!!

In talking with APR they are stating no known issues.  In talking with a tuner in CO... he is stating he has another customer with a similar issue/similar car.

The code they are seeing relates to low boost/leak issues.  He does not believe the car is in any kind of danger and indicated I should not be overly concerned.

I tell ya though, you spend $650 and you get real pissed when it jacks with things.

and Charles - you got that right... I was NOT kidding... grrrrr

Some threads from Vortex (I was actually thinking N75 or DV on the way to work):

Ian - Thanks.  You did not notice any other numerics associated with P0299 did ya?  Any prefix numbers?

I talked to Tom @ APR and he states that a table was changed in 04 from 03.  This they believe to be the problem.  I need to have a reflash and I am going to try and get this done at SCR this Saturday.  I am going to call up there and see if I can get in.

Tom said it is just more of a nuisance than anything and it will cause no perf issue or engine problems.

I did not notice anything else but the P0299 code...perhaps a shortcoming of using an OBD-II reader as opposed to the true VAG-COM.  Was yours a flash or a solder in chip?  If it's the chip, I can download the file and flash the ECU (i've done mine a couple of times).  If SCR isn't available, Avalon may be able to help you out...they're over by Santa Fe and Evans.

Ian - Thanks.  I am going to go ahead and take it to SCR.  They seem to be abreast of the situation and Tom has been dealing with them too.

Also, there appears to be zero performance related issues with this.  Just throwing a code... so that at least makes me feel better.

Reading through some of the links Ian provided (I found some of them last night on a hunch), if the new mapping from APR does not fix it... maybe a new N75 valve might.

Oddly enough though, I was told not to do any DV or N valve replacements until the code was determined.  Once it was... those things were not brought up but rather a new mapping/flash.

Hopefully the issue (cel) will be resolved on Saturday.

if you need another DV or N75 valve i have a couple spares.

I received that code on my Jetta 1.8T at one time and i had a boost leak near the intercooler and then i had a leak near the turbo. It seems that the added boost caused the hoses to slip. Check all the hoses to make sure everything is still in place, under WOT the boost will increase to 1.1-1.3 bar and could cause the hoses to slip.

If i had my ProDiag working i would offer to come help out, But ProDiag is screwing with me about getting it reloaded on my palm.

Eric - Thanks for the offer.  I thinking at this point I would like to try and have the reflash done up at SCR - new APR stuff.

If that does not resolve it, I think it will be a process of elimination at that point - lines, valves, etc.

The only reason I am doing this is that Tom @ APR seemed to be very aware of the issue and believes it to be a table that was changed in the 2004 model - even though others have reported similar issues.

At this point it is not causing anything concerning so I am going to hold off.

While I am at SCR this weekend, and if they have a new DV, I may buy one - as I was wanting a hyperboost.  I won't install it right away though just to make sure the issue resolves itself before any other mods.

Deceptively fast.  She breaths a lot harder now - meaning you can really hear that turbo spool up and hear the excess dumped back into the line.

It definately sounds like the DV or N75 is suffering - LOL.

It is much more "torquey".  The best I can do is just give you a ride sometime and let your own butt dyno do the testing.
