Exhaust is done....
« on: June 16, 2005, 07:36:40 PM »
I decided to go ahead and do the exhaust cat-back...rather than my original idea of resonator back.  I am having mixed emotions after the drive home.  I feel like I went from the typical luxury GLX feeling car to a post puberty (deep voice) import.  The sound is definitely not V8 deep, but much more adult sounding than the typical tuner.  On the performance...Not too sure yet, my ride home was only about 3-4 miles.  Feels like there is more steady power throughout the band.  Pre-exhaust the real power seemed to come between about 3800-5500, now just seems more evenly distributed.  Time will tell...I think I just have to adjust for a few days.

I have a cat-back (2.67") on my A4 2.8 30v, and it is really loud, according to my friends. Not as loud as an unresonated Jetta VR6 (seen that first hand), but still loud.  Grumbly.  I don't think it is too far off from a modern V8 (since they don't do the cool 'glugging' sound as much). You'll grow to like it, I'm sure.  After awhile, it isn't so loud.  Mine doesn't even drone on the highways much.

I think it is just a slight case of buyers remorse.  A little bit if a feeling that I cheapened my "luxury" vehicle.  Are there any high flow/performance resonators on the market?

Yes.  SuperSprint makes one for your ride.  Pricey but from what I have heard from the fellas at ABD - worth it.  At present time I think they are the only ones making it - Believe me I have researched it.
