AAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! Its everywhere!!

Powerstearing fluid.

Got in the car when I got off work, while backing out I notice a weird whineing  it changes pitch when I turn the wheel. check the fluid and its low, and I notice a wet substance all over the passenger side engine shroud(on the bottem side)witch I can only assume is power stearing fluid.

Dosent seem to be leaking from the resavour or any of the lines that I can see, and the wetness kinda has a splater pattern about it.. So that leaves me to suspect the pump.
Witch im sure is not cheep to fix... Double evil

Anyone have to replace one on your tranverse 1.8? Just looking for a ball park figure before I take it to the shop tomarow.

Well...that sucks. Unfortunately, in order to get to the water pump, you're going through all the pulleys. I don't think you have to pull the TB when you do, but heckfire, might as well do it

Quickly becoming an expert on the topic of timing belt and water pump replacement (since I've had to do it so many times already), I will say the following:

First, it does sound like it is your water pump.  Mine did the same thing. I'd fill coolant in there everyday until I could save up the money to have the water pump replaced.

Second, on the issue of replacing the timing belt.  As JR already stated, you might as well have it done while they are in there.  I have a 30v V6, and I'm not sure that the 1.8T has the same setup, but the danger with the water pump failing is that the coolant will have leaked onto the timing belt, which drives it.  This can cause the belt to slip or be damaged in other ways.  So, why not just replace the belt and have peace of mind?

You may be able to pick up a used pump from Undergroud Parts (check the Vortex).  I can't imagine the pump itself is all that difficult to replace, but I'm not sure about refilling the system (bleeding and all that).

do you really need power steering? Save some weight and take the steering pump out.

Power steering related repairs can be costly or so I hear. Hopefully it's a simple fix. One of my power steering hoses was leaking slowly and it seemed to have gummed up enough to seal itself.

Funny you mention that, because my power steering had a leak in it a few years ago too, but a year later it was fixed. Self-sealing power steering fluid...the wave of the future. Now we need self-sealing oil and self-sealing coolant.

Tryed to drive the car a little bit after I got home from the hill climb, and it leaks like a sieve now. And since I cant use regular powerstearing fluid im stuck with manual stearing untill monday.
