December 28th Garage Day/Movie Night
« on: December 20, 2002, 08:28:17 PM »
Just a feeler as to if anyone is interested in a Saturday GTG at my house next weekend.  I actually have the weekend off for a change and

would love to have people over to work on cars, eat some food, and watch movies.

Let me know if you are interested, and we can set a time to get things started.  I was thinking a detailing day since I need to work on the paint on

the LR Disco.

I'm so there. I can cook, want me

to bring any food? Maybe something to supplement the grillin'?
I'll also bring all my car's primping supplies and am happy to help put some elbow grease in on the LR to make it all purrrdy...

I think I'm going to be up in the

Mountains skiing with my fam that weekend.  So it looks like I'll miss out.  And I really need to wax my car too!

If Ray isn't working, I'd love to

come.  So, uh Jon and Amanda are we going to continue my detailing training?  Wax on wax off?

I'll bring food too if I can come...

Yeahza...we could use a power buffer, but since you might be there, I think we will be doing it the old fashion way, by hand, hehehe  , J/K.

I'm gonna plan on being there.  Any

cleaning/waxing supplies I should pick up this week in preparation?

Jon, do you have a VAG-COM?  I need to check a CEL to see if it's the same one I've been getting.

Bring the wax you want to use and

towels for buffing.  I don't have VAG-COM, but Mike Reed does, and he might be make it...but that depends on his family stuff.

I can't make it since I'm heading

up to Jackson WY to hang out with my best buddy, but I would be glad to loan you my Orbital Buffer if you wanted to get serious on that shine!

Let me know and it's yours to borrow!

Winston, you will be missed,

although I am sure you will have a great time in WY.

I would love to use your buffer, but doubt that i will have time to get it before you head out of town.  I work Tuesday and Wednesday nights, but

then I am off for a little more than a week.  Too tired to go anywhere to pick anything up tonight.  I only slept 3 hours this morning, just went

shopping for Xmas gifts for kids on the floor...it is just plane crazy out there  So I think I will just stay home tonight and get some more

sleep until I work tomorrow.

Maybe some other time I can borrow it.  Thanks 8)

Well it is official, I will be going

Saturday, so if anyone was on the fence, you can safely come.

Winston, nice to see another person with a buffer, which one do you have?  I have the Porter & Cable 7336 with a 6" backing plate.  I love

that thing, and has Jon can attest, it does wonders on bad paint jobs.

Now I just need to get those damn hard water spots off my paint, without stripping the wax as well.

Mike, mine is a craftsman model (not

sure which).  I got it on sale, but it is orbital and does a really good job...

Cool, what stuff do you use with it?

I am mainly a Blackfire guy when it comes to polish and wax.  I use 3M FinessIT II for the swirl marks that seem to always be present.  Ask my

wife and she will say that I am pretty much a geek when it comes to car detailing, all my christmas presents this year were car detailing supplies.

Typing it makes me seem even worse.  oh well.

Ooh, all this orbital buffer talk is

getting me excited.
So Jon et al, what time do you want us to come over tomorrow? I have a workshop I'm going to in the morning, it gets over at 12 or 1, so I can be

there around 12:30 or 1:30.. I assume you guys will probably get started earlier than that.

Want me to bring anything besides my wax and towels? i.e. munchies, beer, DVDs, etc?

Everyone, come over when you

can...bring munchies, beer (since I don't have any here) and we will just make a day of it.  I will be grilling chicken...and will have some other stuff

to eat for dinner.

I will be up, so anytime, maybe around 10am for starters, will be fine with me.

See ya all tomorrow.

10:00 am isn't too bad. :)  Jon it

looks like for my water spots, I will need to use a 50/50 vinger and distiled water mix, then re-wash and wax the car.  That sucks bigtime!  I will

bring over my Quick and Easy Wash, that way we won't need a hose.  I hope I can get all my stuff done tomorrow in time for the dinner party in

Longmont for my Brother in-laws birthdday.

Will call you later today about hanging out, I am thinking of taking a half day, and sending my guys home early today.

Also, I want to hit Finishmaster and pick up some more pads, not because of the one that got destroyed, but because I want a bigger pad to use.

Seeing as I have a cold, my

weekend plans are now uncertain.  It is supposed to be really nice tommorrow (60s).  I can't say I'll be there now, but if I bail on skiing this

weekend then I may just be over washing and waxing away.

Mike, I want to go with you to pick

up supplies and some of my own pads so I don't keep blowing your's up.

Jay...sorry that you are not feeling too well, but I am kinda glad at the same time...that means you might come on up for a visit and do some

detailing with us.  It will be great to see you and we will have a great time.

It would be cool to see the Jay Man

again, it has been awhile.  Jon, Angie and I will be going to lunch around 12:15 if all goes well, so I will contact you after.  It does look nice out now,

so maybe I could get some of my carwashing stuff, and bring them over today, and get a head start, so I can help with other people tomorrow.

Oh and Your Momma!

All right I think I can come, but I

prob won't stay for the movie...it depends on how late we go...but anyways, I will probably show up around 1 or so.  I will just maybe watch and

help? I don't have any wax kind of things, but I could still absorb valuable information ;)  Jon I will try to bring some snacks or something.  See ya

tomorrow~

~Wen

PS Amanda you're a wild woman!  I was going to wear my cute new coveralls, but I guess a white tank top is in order?  Or was the wet t shirt

contest for the boys?

Well it was a fairly successful gtg.

Amanda, Alan, and Wendy showed up, along with Jon and myself.  Now Wendy only made a quick appearance, but we were lucky and thankful to

have her!  She even had the appropriate clothing, which I hope Amanda can post for us all later.

Now here are some pics, of my car, and I am feeling good about them. :)  I have made the file size small, and will not email them to everyone, like

2Pat-Shakur!  :)

The First pic, nice stock look.

OK, so a little whorish on the posts

there. :)

I purposely didn't show any profiles, since I want to get lowered first.  It was pretty funny to park Amanda's car and mine together, hers needed a

wash, clay, Finesse-It II, and wax, but I never saw the final result.  At first they looked like to different colors, but after the wash and clay, they

were looking very similar.

Well I think that we will need to do more of these, because it makes the detailing go faster with helpers.
