borrow a boost guage? VAG-COM?
« on: November 18, 2005, 08:17:16 PM »
I might swap ECUs with a guy on AW, but wanted to hook up a boost guage first as I don't trust my butt dyno. I'd like to see what I'm putting out right now in stock mode, then be able to *see* the difference with the APR ECU.

I only need it for the weekend (I think that is when we'll do the swap, waiting to hear back from him). If there is some other way to check boost let me know.

This could be accomplished with VAG-COM as well can't it? Just in case you can't get a boost gague installed in time.

With that, you are welcome to borrow my Pro_Diag (same thing as VAG-COM). Will work on your car for sure.

It will also be for sale shortly (palm pilot and all) as it is useless on my car.

well, might be stuck with the butt dyno. Turns out this person lives across the street from me (what are the chances?) and wants to trade the car in as soon as possible so we might swap tonight or tomorrow morning.

I think my butt dyno is accurate enough to tell by a ride in each car if one is boosting more than the other, and I can do that before we even pop a hood.

I have two boost gauges (VOD & Autometer) lying around at home with the t-fitting and vaccum line.  Let me know if you still need one.

sounds like you are pretty well set for Vag-com and pro-diag options.  but I have one as well if you want to drive east and grab it.

ah nice - thanks for all the offers. I haven't heard back from the seller, but if I have time I'll try to contact somebody and get a device, prolly Ian since there would be no return trip involved -- hehe. Thanks!

Like I said above, I think the quick and dirty way to confirm the new ECU is putting out more than mine is to run the cars side by side for a little stretch. It's not so much that I doubt his is chipped, but I've never really confirmed that mine is NOT chipped!

And yes I am looking forward to the chip!

I've got a VDO -30-0-25psi and a Autometer SportComp -30-0-30psi one.  I also have the vaccum line and t-fitting.

The VDO's never been used and I had the Autometer on one of my other cars.
