On a side note, the new bypass valve system on the 2.0T FSI is really neat.
Jamathe should hook up a ballon to it to see how fast he can fill it up. The kids at the preschool would love it.
I actually think it's because the engine is morally opposed to the BOV. In this instance, CEL stands for Contraband Equipment - Loser.
Actually, I don't know the technicals of it. It could have something to do with the fact that once recirculation is engaged, the system is expecting a certain amount of pressure modulation based on that. When purging to atmosphere, the amount of recirculation is reduced, thereby confusing the system. On the GTI, the DV is between the MAF and the turbo.
Audi's study manual on the design for the 2.7T has the following to say about the diverter valve:"The pressure limiting valve and the non-returnvalve control the return of these vapours andgases to the engine, depending on the intakeThe pressure limiting valve limits the vacuumin the crankcase. If the vacuum in thecrankcase exceeds a defined value, thediaphragm is drawn over the connectionagainst the force of the spring and closes theconnection. The valve is designed in such away that it allows a small quantity to passthrough when closed. This prevents the engineoil being drawn into the intake tract and has noadverse effects on engine breathing."

If only I knew more about cars, I could possibly get this discussion to go forever!
