LOL.

and here I only learned that when it is 5 degrees outside my entire team that I am supposed to train this morning, has chosen to stay home and call in to listen to the training rather than to show up in person.     :(

I'll be the only one in the conference room talking to 20 people on the speaker phone.

I want to play with a plasma cutter!

here's what i've learned today, since you asked:

1- That although I enjoyed Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash, Quicksilver is rather dull (just gave up on it).

2- Sometimes iPods crap the bed and won't come out of their coma till after being plugged in for several hours and hard booted (that was last night actually).

3- They changed the alert sounds and descriptions on the light rail.

4- that although I had previously believed that -20C was the temp at which moisture freezes to the hairs just inside my nose, it can actually happen at the much warmer temp of -14C.

5- that encoding a video with h.264 takes a lot longer than xvid (one i started last night was still going this morning)
Quick! Everyone out of the universe!

So far:

Have learned a bit more about doing an Ajax/ColdFusion implementation.

Have learned that my new iBook has shipped (very happy about this, now I just have to be patient)

Learned that my writing class asignment that I haven't even looked at is late.

Learned that I have not yet completely used up my CA windsheild wiper fluid.

Have learned that it's freaking cold and it doesn't take long for my ears to start hurting.

More later I'm sure. The day is young.

Nice, we have been delving into DWR for our ajax solution. It is pretty slick. We have run into a few glitches, but all in all it is the future. :)

Thanks JR, have not really announced it yet, as some figured out today.  Not even my family knows yet...well, I did just tell my parents, and my sister noticed the ring on her finger when we stopped by their place this afternoon.  So, I did not tell her, but she sure saw it right away.

It is a good feeling to be at this point in our lives.

What I learned today (to get back on topic)...that this community is not only fun and informative, but as a group, some of the most helpful people I have ever met in my life.  Good things happen to good people, and after all the help I received today with the move, I know good things are going to come to all of those that were here, stuck it out, and busted ass for a few slices of pizza and a few beers.

This group rocks!!!!  Some of the best friends a guy could have!

Congratulations Jon!  :D   Being engaged is one of the best feelings next to having kids.

As for the subject matter of this thread, I agree with Jon. In the time that I have been with this club, I have met many wonderful people and enjoyed amny wonderful times.  Oh, and I know how to thread a vacuum line through a firewall of a MkIV GTI!
