There is a magazine at Barnes and Noble I saw that had a bunch of photos, and I think there was one on the cover too.

image link if broken, but if you click here, you can see the first picture is of the TT hatchback:

I heard this was coming supercharged...if so, I may look at trading in the Jetta for one...this is straight hot.

the shooting brake may have a special engine, possibly with a supercharger, but all new TT's should be available with the 3.2L V6 and the 2.0T with an optional 6-speed DSG tranny.  the 3.6L V6 may come later (just like the R36) as VW AG is still working out the DSG to handle the extra power.

The only thing I worry about is what I'm going to coin the "Eclipse" effect, meaning that every generations gets a bit bulkier (heavier).  I'd really like it if Audi made a concerted effort to keep the weight down.  Imagine a  TT weighing in at under 3000 lbs? THAT would have me sold.

But since I don't know how much this one weighs, so I won't say too much. I'm just assuming they'll throw in a bunch of little gadgets and gizmos I won't want! I hope I'm wrong!

Where did you read the DSG couldn't handle the 3.6 power?  I hope it can handle the power because it won't be long until I am pulling more then the 3.6 :)  You know they are using a DSG in the Veyron?

I agree with Jack...if it ever comes with a supercharged 3.2 or 3.6 I'm gonna have to get one. And I'll take the DSG thank you. Problem is, I still need to sit in one first. I barely, and I mean barely fit in Mark's old TT. I'd mere millimeters of head room. And yes, I want the hardtop.

The DSG in the Veyron is far from the same tranny in the A3/TT.  Yeah, they make a tranny capable to handle the power, but charge $1,000,000 for it.  Of course, they throw in a pretty nice car with it. 8)
When you have an unlimited budget, it's easy to come up with something cool.  To make a DSG that handles a lot of power and is still affordable will take time.

but doesnt the RS4 come with DSG too?  still a pricey car, but I figure around a 1.320M discount to the 1.4M veyron.

Its the same patented technology?  The R&D for all the current models using DSG was completed in 2004 (see below).  I would assume this year into next we should see them in almost all models for the reasons stated below.  I am trying to find the 2005 Annual for the R&D group.

VW Group - 2004 Annual Report - Research & Development

DIRECT SHIFT GEARBOX NOW AVAILABLE FOR MORE MODELS

Last year, we continued to extend the range of applications for Volkswagen’s Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG®). As a result, the DSG is now available on the Touran, Golf, Golf GTI, Škoda Octavia, SEAT Altea and SEAT Toledo, as well as on the Audi A3 and Audi TT with high-torque diesel or petrol engines. Optimum gear selection and rapid gear changes give vehicles equipped with DSG greatly improved driving dynamics and shorter acceleration times. At the same time, they consume much less fuel than vehicles featuring conventional automatic or manual gearboxes. In everyday tests, they consume up to 10% less fuel than a comparable model with a manual gearbox. Compared with a vehicle with a conventional automatic gearbox and a hydraulic torque-converter, consumption is even reduced by up to 20%. By using the DSG, Volkswagen has managed to further reduce CO2 emissions. At the same time, we have become the first manufacturer to meet the Euro 4 emissions standard with diesel vehicles featuring automatic gearboxes.

VW Automotive Group 2005 Annual report.  These the number of cars produced by VW in 2005 by model.

Same report but for Audi Group

I'd be interested to see them put some serious diesel technology in the new TT. Yeah, there'll be a diesel, but I hope Audi does something special in light of their R10 TDI victories at Sebring. We'll see, but I wouldn't mind seeing something new for a change.

Still looking for the curb weight figure.

Wow, that's very cool.  It sounds like it should have better balance, too, as most of the aluminum is in the front of the car and the steel is in the rear.  That's good stuff right there!

That is my biggest gripe about new cars... too heavy.  Sure they are more powerful, but they weigh more and a lot of times they aren't any faster because of it.... but if they start shedding weight, that would be very nice.
