RMCB5 Drive May 20th
« on: May 12, 2006, 09:11:42 PM »
I needed to start a new thread to see who is all coming so I can call the restruant and let them know a rough number to expect.

LMK if you are definately coming, might be coming and if you are bring anyone (and how many).  Thanks.

Okay.  So I'll be at the Fort at 8am.   In case you don't know how to get there, take highway 285 (Hamden) west from C-470.  Take your first exit and go North (right) and you will see a fort on the right hand side immediately.  There is a dirt pull off there on that side.  Meet there.  here is a map:

or click me for directions (fort's website)

Here are the directions, maps to print keep with you (if you don't know where to go):
From the fort, get onto highway 285 south (hamden) and go 65-70 miles to a gas station in fairplay at the highway 9 junction.  There is a visitor center on the right hand side of the road, well pull off there (unless you need gas - which is on the east side of the road).  estimated 1hr to 1hr 15min depending on how we drive.
MAP:

After a break to stretch, get gas if needed, etc we'll turn right onto highway 9 and take that into breckenridge.  I can't remember the restruants name right now, but it is a great bar/grill.  I'll get the name and call ahead to make sure they are ready for us.  It is right next to Bubba Gump restraunt on main street.  There is parking behind it and we'll just park there and walk to the restruant.  It is about 25miles and should take us about 30ish minutes.  This road has some great sections.
MAP:

From here we'll talk over lunch and see how much longer we want to continue on.

...

Going to be there:
JR +1
Kevin B

Might make it:
Alan
Jack +1
jay geitl +1

I know I'd like to do this, it has been such a long time since I ahve been on a drive with peeps.

funny thing... I might not be able to make it.

Miata has no brakes... I should be able to fix it before saturday... but it all depends on how quickly I can get parts.

Count me out...no wheels for up to 6 weeks, although they are on order.

jack, you could take your xterra if your miata won't be ready.
though having no brakes could be fun!

I think I could make it.

I wish I could be there, but I will be piloting a U-haul truck to go pick up a swingset we just purchased for the kids.

It sounds like fun, but unfortunately I'm going to miss it.  I have to go out to Utah to drive Miller Motorsports Park instead.

So, I can't go.

I have parts on order.  They'll be here friday.  So I can rebuild my brakes and get everything on, but I'm not going to be able to get it done and then break in the pads in time... since they are race pads I really want to make sure I do the proper break in.

I hope the cruise goes on without me... sucks because I was really looking forward to this... but I'll make sure the miata is good to go for the next cruise.

Because I had to work on my Miata today, I didn't get a chance to go to breckenridge to figure out what the name is of that bar/grill I like so much.  Since it is such a small group, i don't see much of a problem for you guys to find a restaurant to eat at.

I would actually vote for nixing it at this point. Sorry JR and Kev. I mean i guess it cans till go on, but I am still up in the air with this weekend unfortunately and well if Jack our fearless organizer can't make it!

I would really like for us to have a nice BIG drive together, so if we decide to nix this, maybe we can use the same route and throw out some dates that work as a whole?

Otherwise, I mean, yeah, if anyone can make it this weekend if it stays on it will rock right!

well, if some of you suddenly have free time, I could use some muscle with this swingset.

I hauled most of it home last week, but still have two 6'X6'X10' towers to bring home.  I am going to rent a large truck that will hold them both.  but I need help carrying them to the truck, loading them, unloading, and putting them in the play area in our yard.  I figure each one weighs about 400#  so a crew of 4 or 5 people should make lifting/carrying fairly easy.

So, anyone feel like meeting in Brighton, following a U-haul to greeley, doing some lifting, then driving back to Brighton and helping unload.  I'll supply Beer and Lunch for anyone that wants to help out.

that would be awesome.  I'll get you details later in the week.  as for the trailer, I'll let you know if I need it.  If I get the truck we'll be OK, but If I can find 2 good size trailers (or one huge one) then I'll skip the truck.  the towers are really 6'3x6'3X10'2 so they will be a hair wide for a 6' trailer unless it is a flatbed with no rails.  they are too big for my 5x8 trailer.

You really don't need to rent a truck, I'm pretty sure my trailer can handle it:
