So i have been alot time user of APR and have always been happy with the product. But i have been seeing alot of info and dyno charts that make me want to try out the GIAC. Now here's what i am thinking. I 'think' GIAC may product a little more HP/TQ than my current APR BI file.  I am also sick of reading all the GIAC vs APR posts saying one is better than the other. So, i am pondering dyno'ing my car with it's current setup (APR) and then getting Randy to flash the car with the GIAC BI file. Wait a week and then go dyno again.

Here's the problem, $$$$.

GIAC does not offer any trade in when you want to change to a new tuner.  So if i dyno both and one makes more power than the other i want to keep the more powerful one. If the APR makes more power (overall, not peak) i will want to get rid of the GIAC and go back to APR. If the GIAC makes more power than is fine so i will keep the GIAC.

here's the cost breakdown:

$75 for dyno run of current APR
$500 for new GIAC software
$50 for labor for flash of GIAC software
$75 for dyno run of new GIAC software
Total = $700

If i go back to APR i am out $700 and then pay another $50 for a reflash. Bringing to total to $750.

In the end other than spending some money i could put the GIAC vs APR war to rest as i would have dyno charts of the same car, same dyno to compare.

Is it worth it?

8O  8O  How much do you expect to gain for that 750? 10 HP/TQ?

quite honestly, No, it isn't worth it.

I am not  going to go into which software is better or not..  I really think the buying decision around any tuning SW is local support.  if you have problems support from a local vendor you trust is vital.  therefore pick the local vendor you trust the most, and go with the software they offer.

a few Hp here or there is not likely to make a big difference to you in your daily drive.  both represent a huge improvement over stock.

What will make a difference to you is the support you get when something is amis.

as for personally funding an end to the debate - do you really think it will end.  remember "ceteris paribus".
you would only be testing your configuration, on that day, on that dyno.  the debate would continue to rage on with the "but my exhaust is different" not  to mention the "that dyno was off, or didn't flow enough air....

only make the change if you want to change the local tuner you work with.

I agree with Andrew, it all comes down to local support. The debate will never end except for maybe yourself. You do make me wish I had $750 I could just "test" with

not worth it.  You would be a fool to spend all the money just to get a chip that will give you virtually no increase.

There is a 30 day money back policy with GIAC.  I would NOT charge you to "flash" the car.  So figure that into the math....

I would have to charge you for the software, but if you decide there is no change in the car, and want your $$ back, there would be no questions asked.

I like the APR product, and would have nothing bad to say about it.  It would be nice to have a side-by-side dyno plots, and use facts in the "chip tuner debate" and not just opinions.

I'd volunteer for it, but I've got the APR solder in...

If you do a side by side comparison... you need to let the car adapt to each chip before you do the dyno.  Which includes multiple on/offs and runs inbetween so the car can "learn".

Just spend your $500 on this (ABD Racing) and the other $250 to get it installed or do it your self.  That will give you a REAL hp/ft lbs gain that you can feel :)

unfortunatly it does not fit the A4. From what i hear the manifold on my current car is fine till 300hp-ish.. At that point it really becomes a restriction
