What is the larger 2006 Jetta TDI's MPG's?
« on: May 28, 2006, 12:40:16 PM »
Hello all,

I was wondering what the gas mileage is for the 2006 Jetta TDI?

The thing is, it is 7 inches longer and 300 pounds heavier.

Thanks!

yup, that is what Kelly Blue Book says, but I was wondering what people who owned a 2005 Jetta TDI say ---- because on an earlier posting, some Jetta TDI owners, for previous years, were saying they were getting 55mpg --- which is more than Kelly Blue book.

Car and Driver got 36:

Based on my observations, if you drive slow you might get 33/40,  you might get 28/35 if you push it hard.  They seem to do a lot better if you drive meekly.  I suppose that's also true of a turbocharged gasoline powered car.

I had a Touran TDi rental in Europe, did lots of highway and mixed driving.  I did not get over 35 mpg.

Some TDi people are pretty serious about getting good mileage but 55 is hard to imagine.  Make sure it was not Imperial gallons they were using (which are about 1.2 US gallons) and if they were believeing the fuel computer.  Those often read high, and very high for the first 1/2 of the tank.  Probably more so in a TDi if they overfill the tank by messing with the vent thingy.

Below are some reviews from Jetta TDI owners ---- they list their gas mileage they are getting...

Review: Although a Jetta might cost a little more going in, with a TDI powerplant, it can last far longer than other low- price, mid-milage cars. I don't know who said 43mpg for the TDI, but I've gotten over 55mpg. With gas prices going up, who could say no? This is my third diesel VW, and I won't drive a gasoline car again. Performance, awesome pickup, tight brakes, and lots of room to personalize with aftermarket gizmos.

Review: A fun car to drive. It has lots of acceleration for normal highway driving. The fuel economy is wonderful at todays prices.I have gotten as high as 49 mpg on a trip, and always get at least in the low 40's.

Review: I chose the diesel option for it super mileage and I am not disappointed. My commute is 30 miles each way, 90% highway speeds and I average 48 mpg! On a trip to Florida I got in the low 50's driving 70 miles per hour.

Review: My 2005 VW Jetta TDI is very fun and predictable to drive. All of its systems function fine. Its gas mileage was fairly close to 50 mpg on my first trip from St. Louis MO to Las Vegas NV.

I talked two of my co-workers into buying the new Jetta TDi ;)  One was looking at Honda Civic got a DSG and the other looking at a Toyota Corrola got a manual.

The DSG is getting 37 MPG and the manual is around 39 combined drving per tank.  The guy with the manual I think drives more conservitively.

Haven't heard anything on highway milage yet, but the one with the manual is driving to Minnesota in a couple weeks.
