The new girl in my life
« on: May 30, 2006, 10:56:08 PM »
We picked her up today, just as our landscaping in the back yard was getting finished.  Her name is Chloe and she is a 10 week old Australian Cattle Dog and some other mix that we can not figure out.  She is cute and cuddly right now, but will be big soon enough.  Could not be happier with her and she is already making us laugh all the time.

Calling for another DOTG.

That would be awesome.  She played really well with her sister, Claire, who is at Betsy's mom's house.  She has yet to bark, but she did growl at a big dog while at the shelter.  I was holding her and the big wild like dog came up to me and tried to jump up in my lap, she growled and "protected" me,     Her and the cat, Quinci, are getting along better this morning.

Maybe we can all work on another DOTG for a week night so I can come and play.  This is the first dog I have owned, but Betsy has owned many dogs...so it is all new to me, but as of right now, I could not be happier.  I am totally attached to her and she is sooooo much fun.

thanks 2-Pat....she is anxious to meet everyone as well.  She just loves anyone that will scratch her ears or belly.  She had a busy morning exploring the back yard...so she is taking a nap again...

LOL....I am hoping she keeps our back yard and veggie garden free of rabbits.  You can tell she is a herder dog when she plays with other dogs, she likes to round them up ;)

Just wait Jon, it gets worse, in a few weeks she will nip at your heels and do all these freak out things around you as she tries to herd you. :)

I know, I am totally ready for that, but I think Betsy is not.  She is not a fan of herders, but she fell in love with this puppy.  We will see how it turns out.  Right now, she is pretty much a fan of just taking naps, and laying in the grass, and playing with a shoe string that Betsy gave to the cat last week.

as she gets a little bigger, I highly recommend a Big Mean Kitty:

She's going to be a great dog, Kona is super smart and is learning new things rteally fast. We are working with him every day and the big thing is keeping him busy so he doesn't get bored and ensuring he knows it's not okay to nip or mouth at people.

thanks Cole, we do plan on finding someone to help us with training.  I will give them a call.  The good thing is that I am home Monday thru Friday, outside of a little sleep on Mon and Fri....and Betsy is home all weekend while I am at work.  So, she will always be around someone and hopefully she will have very little crate time.  She is in the crate at night, but she goes in there on her own and will hang out until we come to bed...so she is making it easy on us right now.  I am ready for the hard times though, I know they are just around the corner.  Cattle Dogs are known for being really smart, which is why I wanted her, just getting through the training and then she will be awesome.  One day, and I already think she walks on water.

I just ordered that for Chloe...she is gonna love it, then maybe she will leave Quinci our cat alone ;)  Quinci want nothing to do with Chloe at the moment and is quite upset with us that she has lost total rule over the house, haha.
