Looking For A Shop In South Metro Denver
« on: December 01, 2003, 03:39:31 PM »
Just found and registered on this site so please bear with me.

It sounds like there are a lot of people on this board that know of service techs in the business and specifically at the dealerships so I'll apologize to those ahead of time.

I'm having the typical issue with my tierods on my 2000 GLX and the car is wondering aimlessly and it drives me absolutely crazy.  As much as I may want to get this done at a dealership (McDonald is the closest) I can't stomach the $550 they want to charge.  I replaced my own rotors and pads on all four (drilled rotors up front) for less than a quarter of the cost they wanted and I intend to save some money on this job as well but I won't be tackling this one.

So I'm looking for some advice on a good independent shop in the south metro Denver area (I'm in Castle Rock) that can be trusted to do the job right and honestly.

Thanks in advance!

And I'm not sure what took me so long to find this site but I'll be back often!

Off hand, I don't know of any independent shops down that way, I am more up north...but if you feel like tackling the project yourself...I am sure we can arrange a garage day or at least provide instructions.  I have a bently manual that I can copy for you on the procedure...

maybe someone will chime in and help you to locate a Dub/Audi friendly shop that will help you to save some case.  Keep us up to date.

And, welcome to the club!!

Cheers

What about that Russian dude Dub uses?  Anyone know who that is?  I think he's near Santa Fe and Belleview.

Yeah Tony from Leningrad!  He is great and very reasonable.  I don't have his card on me right now; it's at work, so I'll have to get it to you tomorrow.

The place is German Car Specialists and they are on Union, just west of Santa Fe.

We take out cars there when we need work done on them I can't do.  Ahem, that's because I don't have the tools *ahem*

Seriously, though, I would check with him on the tie rods at least.

Any places in or near downtown denver?

Macdonald's service has been really spotty, and it such a pain to get to (no loaners or shuttle service).  I usually waste at least half a day to get my car serviced from them.

Tony's number is 303-789-1233.  He's off of Santa Fe and Union.

Sorry Alan, I don't know of any good places near downtown.

Bolts Car Care is a decent place. I've only been there once with my Passat, but when I used to take my Trooper there (for about 3 years), they always seemed to do good work. They are on 11th and Speer. I've been there and so has Alan (Velo).

I actually haven't had any work done by Bolts.  I dropped my car off one day to see if they could figure out where I was leaking coolant.  They found the hole in my radiator (cause by me, DOH) but wouldn't have been able to fix it for a week, so I replaced it myself.  They didn't charge me anything for looking at it though, so props to them for that.

I did have my rear brakes done at Champagne Auto on S. Broadway (near Evans).  They know alot about Audis and some about VWs and seemed to do a good job.  But they left greasy fingerprints on my e-brake handle!

I just got my car back from Osborn for a few things but one one the tie rods.  Once again Brad at Osborn found a way to get this covered under my VW used vehicle warranty and now I have new tie rods!!!!  PROPS TO BRAD!!!!  If I was not going to get it covered under warranty I was going to have Brad do it on the side at his house.  It never got that far but I would suggest contacting him on this board (black16vee).  I'm sure he could do something for ya.  The only problem is he lives more north but it's worth a try.  I gotta go take the family out for dinner so I'll post more of my recent woes in anther thread.
