4x4 service question
« on: October 03, 2006, 04:43:40 PM »
for the collective 4x4 trust here on the board.....

What is a reasonable price to pay for oil change, filters, automatic transmission flush, front and rear diff fluid change, and transfer case fluid change?....along with the other checks and chassis lube points....

This is for our Tacoma, and I am not familiar with the service costs, just wondering what I should expect ball park, and what is fair or reasonable.  This is our 30K mile service.

*shrugs* Wish I could tell you. In another 7K I'm taking mine to Randy and have him do the diffs and TC fluid.

Fair and reasonable?

I have not used a shop for this service for a LONG time becuase some or the costs seem a bit high.

Most shops charge $15-$20 per box and maybe $40-60 for the transmission for an auto. So $120 before the oil change?  Just my guess.

2 differen Toyota dealers have just quoted me $29.99 per diff, $34.99 for the transfer case, and $99.99 for the automatic transmission.  That includes all fluids as well.

This is not something I want to do myself....

Looks like I might be looking at around $200-250 for the complete service, oil, filter, air filter, and all 4 cases.  Does that sound reasonable to you all?

Ditto. I'd look for an independent. I have a friend at 4 wheel parts up on Peoria and I-70 but I don't think they do that kind of maint- just custom installs and stuff.

Comprehensive Car Care on Evans between Uni and Broadway is one of the best Toyota shops you could ever find. If you are under warranty they should still be safe to use, but I understand the desire to have the dealer maintain it while under warranty.

I know it's a drive from your house, but I can't recommend those guys enough and I haven't had a Toyota for 18 years!

I have recommended them in the past to other Toyota owners, both trucks and cars and have not heard one complaint. Plus they aren't far from Randy so you could always visit with him.

I need to give mad credit to Jay and his recommendations- he recommended Servicemagic for the whole carpet thing and wow. If his rec is as good for CCC as it was for SM- you're set ;)

Okay...back to work...

CCC's quote over the phone last night was $225 plus tax on fluids and filters....so maybe $240 when all is said and done.

That was for oil, filter, air filter, front diff and rear diff service and fluids, transfer case service and fluids, and transmission flush, which they said takes about an hour, and fluid.  They said they would also check power steering fluids, top off all other fluids and lubricate all the chassis, they told me there are 7 zerks on the 4x4 Tacomas, and they would get all of those done.

So, there you have it, now just to decide where to go ;)  Burt on Broadway, where we got the car, or CCC.  They are about the same price and we are under warranty for a couple more years.
