free party at the Denver Art Museum -- 36 hours straight!!!
« on: October 06, 2006, 03:21:22 PM »
This weekend is the grand opening of the Frederic C. Hamilton Denver Art Museum expansion (that spikey titanium building to the south of the Public Library).  It will open for 36 hours straight this weekend and admission is free!  There will be guided tours, performances, live music and other happenings scheduled all through the night and morning.

I'll probably be going there at 1 or 2am Saturday to avoid the crowds.
Here's the line up:

Through the Night
Hamilton Building
10 pm–midnight - Classical Guitar with Dean Shoup & Jeff Gleason

Midnight - Art Trivia Game

Midnight - Art Fitness Training with the Lab at Belmar

Midnight–2 am - Drop-in Drawing with tattoo artists from Twisted Sol

Midnight–10 am - Faces of the DAM Digital Mosaic

12:30–4 am - Performance Art: DJ, Beatbox & Live Painting with The Yummies

1–3 am - Performance Art: Topiary by Erin Philip

1–5 am - House Music featuring DJ Vitamin D

1, 2, 3 & 4 am - Better Than Sleeping: Tours of the Contemporary Collection

North Building
9 pm–8 am - Video: Anatomy Lessons by Lars Kremer

10 pm–midnight - Spanish Tarot Card Readings

Midnight–5 am - Poetry: Slam, Jam, & Java with Denver School of the Arts

Midnight–6 am - Films: DAM Documentaries Selection of the Architect & Spatial Dance

1 am - Performance Art by Steve Silber

Early Sunday Morning
On the Plaza
7–7:45 am - Sunrise Outdoor Sculpture Tour

North Building
5–10 am - Morning News with The Denver Post (cash coffee bar)

Used to do it all the time in Chicago- they'd all sorts of sweet fashion shows, openings, festivals- it's an urban, big-city thing. Coloradan's just don't quite get that whole concept yet.

That's because this is Colorado, not Illinois. Sorry to hijack, but big city people complain all the time that Denver isn't like . That's right, it's not. It is slowly creeping in that direction which is a damn shame.

As for the art museum, I am not a big art guy, but even I am interested in checking it out if not just for the kickass building design.

Alan, I just talked with Tish. We're going to hit Bara for some sushi and then head over to Jet for a drink followed by the art museum.

I was there from 3:30 to 5:30am and there were a lot of people there.
The new museum is incredible, lots of great art.  I had a great time.

I am glad you enjoyed it.  I do look forward to seeing it sometime soon, but probably during daylight hours.   I just can't do the middle of the night thing anymore.

Okay, I've had some sleep. Tish and I met Alan there around 12:30am. We get in line for tickets only to find out that the next available slot is for 3:30a.

So we head across the street to Cap City, suffered horrible service but drank until closing. Then it was back to Alan's pad for more drinks and design talk. We finally made it in to the museum at 3:30. Really cool. Check it out when you ge the chance.

Around 5:30ish, we headed to Tom's Diner for breakfast. Then we went home to bed. I'm sure Alan did too after we dropped him off. All day yesterday I felt like crap- probably hung over a little bit :?

I want it to snow.
