So this has been going on since I got the car, I just wanted to know if it's normal or if anyone else out there has the same problem. I've got heater whine...

My heater noise isn't necessarily a whine but it is annoying sometimes. Maybe we can figure out a way to oil or grease up the motor. I know where it is so it's not hard to get to.

I've had a couple people ask if I have a cricket in my car.  That's sorta what my heater fan sounds like.  It's not constant so I haven't taken the time to tear apart my dash to try lubing things up in there.  If you wanna borrow my Haynes manual and try fixing it, lemme know.

My fan makes a wicked nasty noise on speed 1 or 2 if it's very cold outside. Once engine temps rise a bit, the noise goes away. Not sure what that is but it's probably different than what you have.

I think they are all noisy.  This is the the first year I have noticed any noise, and mine is much like Andrew's, on speed one or two.

Mine is the same as Shummer, but sounds similar to crickets like Velo.  After everything warms up, the sound is not so noticeable.
If it ain't broke, take it apart and fix it!

Me too, mine started about a year after I bought it. It only hapens when it's really cold, then goes away after it warms up. Doesn't really bother me, so I haven't wanted to do much about it.
Look officer, I really do own it......

You know guys, it sounds like a Passat thing...'cause mine is very akin to Shummer's, it's very annoying and it just whines...mine still whines on 3 and 4, but the air noise drowns it out.

When the car is warm it gets alot better, and I never had any problems in the summer. I think it's the fan.

As far as crickets go, I know my glove box door makes cricket noises...that's REALLY annoying.

Yep me too in both my B5.5 AND the EuroVan.  I think it's the motor bearings.  Or at least that what it was in my old company car.
