Just added 50hp to my office ;) (now with seat belt!!!)
« on: October 31, 2006, 06:01:42 PM »
I finished the first one today.  Still need to paint the bracing black, and round off the edges of the supports so I don't cut myself...any more than I already have

Total cost.....$21,000 for a MINI Cooper, $600 for new front seats, $65 for old office chair that was raped for parts, $18 for angle iron and nuts and bolts......now I can sit and enjoy my $21,683 office chair  :D

Is that the other "donor" chair I see int he background? Looks good, you should do a lap belt so you can stay strapped in. ;)

Also, maybe see if you can re-use the arms from the donor chair. No matter what, it kicks ass and i am certainly jealous! That is one pricey chair!

it is another donor chair in the background.  I have to convince Betsy to let me do it to her chair.  as for the arms.  They sit to low, so I need to figure out how to straighten them, then they will attach very easily.  I have seat belts, just need to figure out how to attach them without looking cheesy 8)   I think it would ROCK having the ability to buckle in, then figure out how to get the heating element to work, then the air bag in case I fall over while taking a nap....then plug in the PS2, and get a driving module and enjoy some serious GT3 in style.

Nice! I was wondering if they are heated. I'm sure you could do something that plugs into the wall, then have another plug tot eh chair so you don't hamper your mobility in the office. Ok, now I am getting really jealous.

Aw dang - Jay beat me to it! I was going to say "fasten your seat belt!"

Looks teh hawtness  - coolest office chairs ever. Well, some S4 Recaros might be cooler, but not much!

Definitely go for the airbag, can't be too careful! :D

Need to add on some attachments like this chair.

I think 50HP is a bit generous considering they came out of a MINI.

Maybe 4HP.....5HP if your lucky.

Hell the super duper John Cooper special edition racing MINI is only 214HP.

you never can tell.  25% of that power could have been in the seats.  Flintstone style!

I saved my Saab seat (in 2003) for a project like this, but never got around to actually making it happen.  My idea was to put it on the deck, and charge a few car batteries with a solar panel, and use the power to heat the seat for some late night astronomy.  I'm inspired to rethink my project...
