You could get as throttle happy as you ever want to Jay and NEVER break that 14bolt in the X.
Of course you would have to step up to manly tires to not drag it. They can be a bit of a plow under a short rig.

Trying to lift my front end to accomodate anything over 33" would be hellish Frankly, I couldn't justify the expense. It is funny that at $600, the whole setup is cheaper than just an air locker 8O

Not only is it cheaper than an air locker, it is cheaper than just 1 tire/wheel combo on the truck 8O

Those axles sound sweet....Full width is nice but shortened is better...still looks kinda stock!
My friend has a pair of toyota pickup axles for sale...front is disc, rear is drum......if you don't want to go the big axle / new wheel direction.
Let me know and i'll see what he want's for them......

Yes! Please!! I've got a couple of leads through craigslist, but people are being unresponsive. Would he have calipers to go with the fronts?

Ok, heres the scoop...
Both axles are from an 83 toyota pickup...
Front Axle: complete axle with rotors, calipers, pads, hubs, steering linkage, steering stabilizer and flex lines on the calipers.
Rear Axle: complete axle with 10 inch drums, brake lines and flex line.
Both axles were unbolted and dropped complete from his old truck.......now the bad news...
I don't know the width, did'nt have a tape handy..
I don't know what gears are installed either...
I think all FJ's have the same 6 bolt pattern as pickup's..
i honestly don't know what they are worth.....
He's thinking $400 for the pair...they are not advertised anywhere so you are the only one who knows they are for sale..
Let me know what you think....feel free to do some research, he dosent need a quick answer.....

The bolt patterns are the same, but I'm not sure if the axle will bolt directly up. '83 pickup, I'm suspecting 4.10s, but could be in the 3.92 range. I'll do a little bit of research to see if they'll bolt straight up, or what it will take to make them work. The $400 tag is a fair price. I'll get back to you shortly ... of to sign up on IH8MUD...

Arn't the toy truck axles much smaller and lighter duty than the old land cruiser axles? You might get brakes but be taking a step down in stregnth?!
How wide are the Cruiser axles?
You might be able to find some D44s from a mid 80s wagoneer cheap that may be the right width and bolt pattern.
Also some of the 80s Chevy trucks had 6 bolts.

I don't remember what the 80-83 axles looked like from the Hilux pickups, but you may be right.

I don't know much about the axles, have'nt needed to do to much research in that area as of yet.
I'm sure Cole is right, the pickup axles are supposed to the weakest, in relative terms, then a Dana 44, then land cruiser. The D44 and Land Cruiser axles both have there weak links....i'm sure the Dana is cheaper to repair / upgrade as well.
I'm not trying to take a sale away from Cole, just give you some other options......one final thing i have noticed about 4 wheeling.......you never replace a broken part with the same or a "weaker" one........just something else to think about for when those 33's wear out and 38's are on sale.......

English,
I was really not trying to make a sale. I just happen to have the full width truck axles. Probably not the direction he wants to go with the rig anyway. (but with the right offset wheels it would really not be that wide). I figured out once that with full width axles under my TJ and the right wheels I could be the same width I am now.
Does anyone know the width of Cruiser axles? "Wheel Mount Surface" to "Wheel Mount Surface"? What is the pumpkin offset front and rear?
