Kolorado Treffen, Sept 8 - 9, 2007 - Salida, CO
« on: March 09, 2007, 12:34:12 AM »
WEBSITE: Colorado Treffen

x-post courtesy of our pal Scoty:

Here's what we got:
September 8th & 9th, the weekend After Labor Day and loosely configured but depending on how many people & cars show:
1 base hotel
1 free campground
1 park with pit grills with overflow parking across the street.

Too many car/people, I'm looking at Wallmart for "hosting" the 'show' and cookout.

The drive is figured out, mileage & timed and almost map-finalized!
The drive can be done as a loop @ 2.5hours or as a out and back for a 4+ hour drive.

I just spent 2 days in Salida snowboarding at Monarch.  Pretty fun town over all and Benson's in town has guiness on tap. (as well as a few other brews - mostly micros).  Great place to stay if you want to go fishing, hiking, climbing or checking out some art.  GO TO MOONLIGHT PIZZA FOR SOME GOOD PIE!!!!  but be prepared for the "Boulder politcs" if that matters.  Very liberal town.  Fun overall and most hotels have a hot tub too.

Hopefully I can make it up and show off the Eurovan in all it's glory.

Hey Rob.  Scot is the manager or Absolute Bikes in Salida.  It's a great bike shop so stop in and tell him you know me.  He's the guy that wears the kilt to some of the shows.

Another post from Mr. London on the 'tex:

Just a reminder this event is moving forward.

No sponsors, no vendors, no judges, no bs, just fun.

The 1st annual Colorado Treffen

September 8-9

Salida, Colorado.

We have a host hotel, host camping ground, a park reserved for a BBQ and one of the most beautiful drives you will find anywhere. Keg party in the works and all around super radical time for all.

Things are days away from being 100% firmed up. When they are I will post the website and we will start getting the promotion material on the streets.

Show up get a hotel room, set up your tent, park your car, pop the hood, hang out with friends drive through parts of Colorado you have never seen, or just lounge in the hot springs and get away for the weekend

Stay tuned.

Yeah, looks like it'd be fun to get away. I'll have to see where I'm at before committing, but I'll do it for sure if I can.

Salida is a great town, Benson's is an excellent neighborhoody restaurant/bar, and there is a disc golf course down the street in Poncha Springs. I'm in.

I just booked my room at the Super8. Our plan is to head out around noon on Saturday get checking in and head to the BBQ. If you want to enjoy some other aspects of the area I would recommend coming down Friday night so you can go mtn biking or rafting or whatever on Saturday before the BBQ.

Aaron, for the BBQ I believe all you'll need is your own food and utensils. I think the park has grilles and that. I will check with Scoty (whom I see you have become acquainted with on vwvortex :D) to confirm that.

I as planning on just bringing food for me, the little lady and the dog. Some beer, soda and water and that's about it. There are restaurants in town as well so if the BBQ thing isn't for you there are places to eat.

Here are some more details for those wondering about grille availability and cars that would be welcome:

Quote
Yes, there are many @ the park. Bring phood and fixin's! NO ALCOHOL!

German, Russian, Polish, Italian, Norwegian, sure!

So there ya go, plenty of grilles, just bring food for yourself, NO BOOZE as pointed out. That's what the party at the bar is all about.

Everyone is welcome, so if your friends are non VW/Audi owners tell them to come out anyway.

A quick update, just got word this weekend, if you booked your room at the Super 8 already, call them back and let them know you are with Colorado Treffen. You should receive a discounted rate.

If you still need to book a room be sure to mention Colorado Treffen for the discount.

Well I will be there. Already took the days off of work. So I shall be there are least one, if not both days.

I called back today to get the discount and it was about $71 something instead of the $79 or 80 it was without the discount.

Redline (Mike) may be looking for a roomie if he hasn't booked yet. I guess if there are folks looking to cut costs or split rooms post up and see if we can get you matched up.

Ok, so I am thinking in terms of cruising down there to meet around noon at the Conoco at Morrison? There is also an unpaved lot across the street from the Conoco that we can park in if the Conoco is full. Maybe hang there until 12:30 and then hit the road. I believe it is about 130 miles to Salida so it is a few hour drive. Those staying at the Super 8 I believe check-in begins after 1pm so the timing should be good. The BBQ is scheduled to begin around 3pm (which is bring your own grub n stuff...NO BOOZE).

It's a nice drive out there anyway, since it is mid day on a Saturday it may not be that fast, so don't be surprised if we are only able to go the speed limit.

So if you like this idea let me know. If no one is interested in caravaning that is fine too, I just figured with enough people heading out there why not. If you can think of a better place to meet feel free to chime in.

EDIT: I forgot to add we will have the dog with us so there is the possibility that we may need to stop at some point. I doubt we will need to, but if he has to go he has to go.
