bose speakers
« on: March 18, 2007, 11:54:43 PM »
can someone tell me what the easiest way to get my stock b5 bose headunit out.

also i  need consensus on this question:  i have said before i have a short in my bose stereo and my front driver door speaker goes out with my rear passenger side speaker.

the only place these 2 wires could come across each other is behind my head unit?  so i figure this is where i should start. if someone could agree or give me input before i take this headunit out i would appreciate it.

You should be able to acquire or fabricate the radio "keys" needed to remove the deck.

I would check the connections behind the door speaker first. Maybe the speaker itself is having problems. As for radio keys, you need to get a hanging file folder and cut your own. Here is a closer view.

hotani i am getting 2 speakers out. can they effect each other if there is a faulty speaker. or only if there is a crossed wire or short.

the driver door sounds scratchy when it is working however the rear passenger side door sounds great when it comes on. (when they work... they work together.) never just one or the other is out. if they are out both are. or both are working.

Check for a loose harness on the back of the head unit.

audiworld has (IIRC) a tech article on making them from the brackets in a hanging file folder.

This does not indicate how to make the "keys" but is a short how to:

With my homemade keys it's easier to pull the head unit with a helper, one person to pop the catches and another to put a bit of pressure on, pulling the head unit out.  I use the cassette slot to pull from.

With one person I pop one side and then the other.  Left than right or vice versa.

A stereo install shop might pop it for you also.

Maybe you should run over to Soundtrack or Car Toys and give one of the installers $10 or $20 to help you get it out so you can work on it.... before you do something bad and then kick yourself later

It's easy to put the tools in too far.  Takes finesse if you are using the homemade tools.  Put them in a little ways and rock them outward to feel the spring catches.
Pushing the HU in a bit sometimes helps.   And like I said, I do left then right, not the whole thing at once.
